I like 21:9 but I see more benefit while im doing work, and using it with black bars as 16:9 isn't too bad

However it really depends on which 2 monitors your comparing as a good ultrawide is a lot more expensive than a good 16:9

Never tried 21:9 but I definitely would want it. Could always use more screen space for school work.

I have the cheapo LG 25UM58-P, I don't plan on ever again using widescreen monitor, ultrawide is great for gaming, just have to accept the performance hit of the resolution. I haven't played any recent games that doesn't have support, some older games can be a bit weird to make work (there are some tools to make games and also videos work properly on ultrawide) or not support at all, but all modern games do support.

Pretty much every thing that isn't E-Sports and even so a couple of E-Sports like CS:GO supports it.

You're being a bit aggressive, buddy, no one works for you here, we're all just trying to help. The absolute most of current games and almost all future games will support, so it's very common, but if you have a problem with watching content or playing one or two games with black bars, go with the normal one which won't give you any problems.

21:9 is cool but I’d rather have a 16:9 144Hz screen, cause I play a lot of FPS games. It is better for productivity though, and immersive gameplay

you have answered your own question. Definitley better compatibility because it is the standard. I'll tack on a litle more. Because 16:9 is far more common than 21:9, there are more option especially in Hz and panel types. So, if you need a new monitor now go 16:9 unless you can shell out the cash for the top of the line 21:9 that come with high Hz. If you're not in need of a new monitor, I suggest waiting. LG is coming out with some new UW that come with higher Hz and better displays. Not sure on the exact eta but they have been teasing on facebook. And you can expect competitors to follow.

I did post a link to wide screen gaming forum, the place to go to see if the game you want to play is default compatible or what changes you need to do to make it work.
