Probably not ultra. The 660 could probably run medium-high to high settings.

if the cpu is in your current rig, you should be ok for a while but i would upgrade fairly soon if you want to keep up with most modern games .

ESO should be the first MMO to actually run pretty decent on AMD and 8 threads since it is a console port. I would look at this 8 thread game (BF4) and choose based on it. Also keep in mind that MMO's are the most CPU intensive games there are. Lot's of characters on screen, spell effects etc. I wouldn't skimp on CPU. I expect ESO to have lower FPS then BF4 in large raids/pvp.These benchmarks are multiplayer so it should give you some idea.

Not really, try to something a bit more powerful like a 270x

Agree with this. The MSI R9 270 will do 270x speeds with ease though and depending where you live it is still in stock. Sometimes the 270x comes bundled with BF4 so it may be the better buy if you don't have BF4 and want it. Asus, Gigabyte, MSI are the brands I would stick to. They just make better coolers then other brands on the 270's. The Sapphire doesn't look horrible on temps in reviews either. Other brands are pretty awful.

I don't see why the r9 270 couldn't do ultra. The graphics in ESO don't look very demanding and the game will most likely be CPU bound, like every MMO ever made. Guild Wars 2 graphics are WAY beyond what is in ESO and a r9 270x could max them at 1080p, because you would be cpu bound anyways.

Same goes for Wildstar. Don't know if that game will be 8 core though. Looks a lot like the WoW game engine in which case 8320/50 would be the lowest I would go on AMD and you will probably want an OC.

im sry but thats all 100% speculation.

660 is not a weak card, at least not weak enough to consider a r9 270 a "upgrade", it would be more of a sidegrade

Averages.png

there is no reason to think eso will be anything like  bf4. There is absolutely no benchmark or anything to even remotely say that

if it is anything like GW2 or wow or skyrim, he is far better of  with an i5. 8350 doesnt come close to i5 performance on those games, even OCed doesnt catch up to stock i5 performace

If it is anything like GW2 you don't go AMD period lol.  Unless you want 15 fps in large battles.

WoW, GW2, Skyrim are not 8 thread games and Skyrim is not an MMO? WoW and GW2 simply can't be played on a console. ESO IS a console game. It HAS to work on the console...It isn't like the console has a good cpu in it. They had to make all 8 threads work to even play an MMO.

Play Planetside 2. It was HORRID in mass battles on a AMD 8350 before optimization. Now? It isn't bad at all. The game is now a joke for my I7. I could play 4 instances of it.

Is the AMD going to be better then an Intel in an MMO, where FPU is important? Of course not. Will they have culling to solve that and will it be very playable? Bet they will, and I think it will be. I think ESO is going to be the biggest bomb since SWTOR, but the AMD should play it much better then it plays GW2 and WoW.

As far as the r9 270, is it a better 7xxx then what is in the PS4. It is an "amd title" as are all the console ports. If he has the 660? Yeah it is fine to keep. If he needs a new card? The 660 is a horrible choice. My fault if he already has a GTX 660. If he does? Yeah don't bother upgrading. The graphics in ESO look horrible. A 660 should be fine for high/ultra. You might have to take shadows down to medium instead of high, but it isn't much of a visual difference.

But wont ESO be kind of made for AMD CPUs though since its coming out on consoles as well, and thanks for those bench marks i got an update for my nvidia drivers today aswell offering "50%" better performance in SLI on new games like BF4, Crysis 3 etc. So might just get another 660? Also just watched Linus' AMD build what do you guys make of the APUs are they any good when coupled with a gpu?

AMD has had integrated with a GPU before and it kind of sucked. I would wait until actual benchmarks. It is probably more of a r9 260 plus integrated budget thing.

ESO will be playable on an AMD.

The 8350 is half the speed on floating point as an I5. So it's 8 cores will never pull ahead and in a game where FPU is important it very well might fall behind, even on 8 threads. It won't be near as bad as it is in WoW, Guild Wars 2 though.

Mantle? Is just going to make both chips overkill. Everything becomes GPU bound. ESO won't be mantle. They are already at a 200 million dollar budget and I don't see them adding it unless the game is a hit.

I think AMD will be very good on ESO. I would go I5 all day over 8350, but the 6300fx is a good budget choice.

I wouldn't mind switching to I5 is it worth the extra on get the 4470k or just go for 3 series? So in the end I shall end up with i5 quad core and r9 280x should handle those games in ultra?

I would go z87 (Haswell) just because the cheapest board in the world will OC like a boss. A good z77 with good power phases and SLI is still a lot of money.

Find the cheapest z87 with SLI by Asus, Gigabyte, MSI and hell even Asrock is fine on z87. All that matters OC is the chip.

If you live near a microcenter (U.S.)just grab their combo with a Asus SLI board. If you are going AMD you can grab the same cheap MSI I have.

http://www.microcenter.com/site/brands/intel-processor-bundles.aspx

You can pricematch the CPU prices on Staples online live chat. Google it. Many people have had luck doing it. i5 is 199. Board and chip are 320 for Asus. 255 with the MSI crossfire board.

And yes a 280x and a I5 will definately max 1080p. The 280x will be even faster with mantle then it is currently and it is already very fast at 1080p. In the U.S. the 280x is stupidly expensive though due to miners. :(
