You could grab an i7-6700

Hi all, it seems Fallout 76 has my CPU at the minimum requirements, as I want to play on high with around 60fps in open areas, I feel a CPU upgrade may be on the cards.  I've a budget max of £200 and that is pushing it, my specs are in my signature but the short of it is a i5 6600 cpu, 16GB DDR4 2133mhz, Asus H170 Pro gaming, and a Gigabyte G1 OC 1080.  I am aiming for 1080p 60fps Vsync enabled gaming. 

 

 

PC - NZXT H510 Elite, Ryzen 5600, 16GB DDR3200 2x8GB, EVGA 3070 FTW3 Ultra, Asus VG278HQ 165hz,

 

Mac - 1.4ghz i5, 4GB DDR3 1600mhz, Intel HD 5000.  x2

It's a little over my budget ( local place i can drive too is £250 ) but FK it, sure I can call in a few favours.  Is it that much of a bump over the 6600?

In alignment with Crunchy Dragon, any 7th gen i5 or i7 (or 6th gen i7) is probably going to fit best in your budget. But I would probably wait and see how the game runs first, that way you don't spend money you don't need to

You could also grab a 7700. Which would bump the clocks further. I also see 7700k's on ebay for sub 200 for a handful. Just remember you won't be able to overclock them with that motherboard, but you will still get to take advantage of their 4.5k boost speed... which will be plenty for a long time yet.

I've looked at 7700's very nice but outside what funds I have available right now, so unless I can manage on a 6600 in 76 with the settings etc I wish to have, the 7600 seems to be a solid fit.

You should be looking to jump to something with hyper-threading though... which will expand the life of the cpu by giving you 4 more logical threads.

Oh the 7600 does not have HT? wtf, I thought i7's all had that.

i7 7700, it's easy updating your BIOS to fit it in, it's the best CPU you can pick personally speaking, second hand deals are a real thing.

 

4c/8t 14nm+ at 4ghz all cores boost is pretty neat

Aye, had "the" discussion with my better half, and will take longer to save but will go for the 7700 :)
