Sign of bad RAM or something else?

Hello folks

I have a formerly lovely gaming PC that once ran well, now it is no longer as lovely. Basically running almost any game (even less graphic intensive) the framerates will drop to single digits, but will magically bounce back to high numbers randomly. My band aid solution has been to pause and bring up the game menu, and the framerates might bump back up to normal, until it randomly happens again a few minutes later. I believe it's the RAM as I have been having issues getting the computer to POST at times. Any expert opinions would be most helpful.

Run it with 1 stick a few times, testing both separately. One of the sticks should produce that same phenomenon if it's bad, the other should be fine if good.

Can always run a memtest as well.

Start there and see what that yields.

Make sure your ram are properly inserted. Overtime you could have a bad socket connection. Make sure no dirt or debris in there. Clean the rams contacts.
