Laptop Suggestion?

Hey guys,

Been looking for a new laptop for a while now. I was able to narrow my list down to GS65 and the Razer Blade 15. I really like the blade design (and that trackpad!) but Razer's QC and CS really terrify me. I'm not exactly sure I want to spend a ton of money only to have the thing break after two days and have to deal with bad CS for the next three months... GS65's build quality is the only thing that's been stopping me from pulling the trigger. The hinge just looks weak and vulnerable; too many posts on the interweb with GS65 owners having cracked hinges...

Aside from these two, is there another laptop I should consider? Not a fan of the Aero 15x...

My budget is about 2500 and I'll be doing rendering and I'd like to game a bit also.

Thanks!

What about the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S? It has an 8750H and a 1070 max Q, the main downside is the fact that it only has ~2 hours of effective battery life.

I'm from the states. Battery life is important to me, 2 hours really won't cut it. I think the main thing for me will be a thin and light. Not a fan of the massive machines like Alienware...

Been looking at the XPS15 also!

If you want a thin and light laptop that you can game on the options are limmited to dell xps 15 and maybe razer stealth or something like that.

Im with you on this, actual gaming laptops look horrible ?

My current non-gaming laptop only gets me about 2.5 hours, so if I can get double that, that would be awesome. And max 3 kg.

Yeah I figured as much... XPS 15’s webcam position got me while razer’s QC and CS are the reasons why I haven’t pulled the trigger on it. Went to Best Buy the other day and the GS65 doesn’t look awful, but it doesn’t feel like it’s worth 2000. Like just from it’s build quality.

You don't have to go for thin and light gaming laptops, go for bulkier laptops (under 3kg) with better cooling. 5 hrs of battery life in normal use can be achieved in gaming/power laptops with some tweaks. Also, your budget is overkill.

Here are some good options:

Spoiler

With 1060 GPU:

HP Omen 15 dc - non GSync, 144Hz or UHD panel, 70Wh battery

Asus GL704GM/GL504GM - 144Hz IPS

If you're fine with 1050TI:

Lenovo Legion Y730 17

Eluktronics NB50TK1

Options like Dell G5/G7 with UHD panel, Legion Y730 15, Legion Y530 (300nits, 72% NTSC), MSI GE63/GE73, Asus GL703GM/GE and Asus GL503GE might need some stretch to get ~5 hrs battery life

Alternatively, you can go for 'true' mobile workstations. They have highest build quality in general:

Spoiler

1. Lenovo Thinkpad P52

8850H, P3200 (slightly slower than 1060N), FHD 72% NTSC, 8GB, 500GB. Manual upgrade RAM+storage

2. Dell Precision 7530

8750H, P3200, FHD 72% NTSC Cam/Mic, 8GB, 256GB SSD, backlit keyboard, Intel 9260, 97Wh battery

3. HP Zbook 15 G5 - over budget

Choose the specs you wanted, these are just recommended specs
