My main computer is connected to my router wirelessly (not ideal, I know; but otherwise I'd have to have a long ethernet cable strung through my house). I am using a USB LAN adapter. After a recent reinstall of Windows I can't get it to connect properly to my router, the network shows up and I can connect to it but I have no internet. I tried windows network diagnostics and it just tells my to restart my modem and click "Next". When I do it says my internet connection is "broken". The really weird thing is that my laptop (also wireless) internet works and so does the internet on another computer that is connected via ethernet. (This is my adapter: https://www.amazon.ca/Adapter-600Mbps-Wireless-Antenna-Support/dp/B01M0Q51UI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1540339562&sr=8-2&keywords=wireless+internet+adapter.)

What is actually supposed to go here? Some people put their specs, others put random comments or remarks about themselves or others, and there are a few who put cryptic statements.

The first thing I'd do is get a reputable adapter from a company like TP-Link, ASUS, Netgear, or Linksys rather than troubleshooting that no-name brand adapter. There's nothing wrong with cheap no-name adapters when they work, but when they're not working it's often not worth time troubleshooting them or their drivers.

You can also test the adapter & driver software by trying it on another computer running the same version of Windows.

if you go into device manager is there any "!" with the adapter itself? if so if the adapter has a model number on it try searching for it on google and try to download any drivers for it. also if you havent already you should try plugging it into multiple usb ports to verify it does not work. if none of this is the case then it is probably a problem with the router itself or the ip address scheme of your computer. let me know if this is the case

Does this adapter come with any driver software?

I tried, it still doesn't work.

Bingo, that tells you the adapter is defective, or the drivers don't play nicely with your Windows version. Time to go shopping for a quality WiFi adapter.

If trying it in another computer yielded the same result then the only advice I can give is try downloading the latest version of the driver from the manufacturers website.
