Can't activate windows. Microsoft is horrible

Wetpig

I built a new PC - I knew my Microsoft acc is linked to my windows so I just assumed I can log in and it would activate, but no!

I went to "Activation" - the troubleshooter prompted me to "recently changed hardware" then I typed my PIN code and it said

"We can't reactivate Windows as our servers aren't available right now. Wait for a few minutes or try adding your Microsoft account again. "

I decided to update my windows to the newest version because I thought that might be it..... Now even the troubleshooter doesn't work. Does anyone have a solution? There is no way to type with a real person - which is ************* goddamit Microsoft! The "GET HELP" thing also doesn't work now after I updated.

Just asking - I have a Win 10 disk with the product key written on it. Can I use that reinstall windows and change to an SSD?

Why not use phone activation? It's annoying to have to do that but it should work just fine.

Yup, you call up and have them text a link to your phone which you use to type in the key, or you can do it the old way and type in the key and sit on the phone :)

there is a "change product key"  - but it is under "Buy from the store"

I literally can't do anything except to try to use my old Win 10 and install it.

you should just be able to change it, MS likes to put stuff in odd places, remember they are the people who made you enter the "start" menu to power off your system ?

It knows this is my PC, when I "Activate" it says it can't and I should wait - then underneath is a link to go buy it!

If it says you must wait, then wait a little longer. You can use updates troubleshooter - activation uses the same services (more or less) so it may help.

Windows support staff took over my PC and fixed it remotely. It was something I couldn't do myself.

Was about to suggest that.

To anyone reading else though, yes, Microsoft will support you for free when installing or activating Windows. They might charge you though for issues besides those I mentioned.

After saying I had my account linked to windows they said it will be free of charge. So make sure it is - to anyone reading this.
