250 Dollar Speakers

Go to solution Solved by dizmo,

http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-BX5-D2-Monitor-Speakers/dp/B005F3H6Q8

These are supposed to be absolutely superb.

I'm guessing you live in BC, so if you're near the border you can grab these from Amazon.

I have been looking for speakers for a little bit now but haven't been able to make a sure decision. I'm leaning toward getting a pair of AudioEngine A2+'s and forgoing a subwoofer, but I have also heard that getting a nice pair of bookshelf speakers and a lepai amp could be the better bang for buck option. I'm basically asking for a ~250 dollar audio set up that is good with some bass (don't need a tonne but would still like a fairly decent amount as I usually listen to elictronika and classical). I would prefer it be 250 dollars with shipping but I can finagle with my funds; thank you.

Edit: I decided on the M Audio BX5 D2's. Thank you all for your recommendations.

There is a lot "controversy" with those speakers, some people saying they're the best ever, and others saying they are garbage from a peripheral company.

Audioengine A2+'s

Those aren't a good set of speakers, there are better sounding values.

was about to say that darn

I was just at my uncle's house and he had 82,00 dollar front speakers and 42,000 dollar back speakers for surround. They sounded good. I recommend saving.

All personal preference..Linus and Slick both have them, they say that they're great. I've never heard them say anything negative

Get a pair of decent monitors and a subwoofer if you can fit that in.

Not peripherals that make noise and have "gaming" all over it.

But mah gaymin qualitah tho.

I swear sometimes I forget what gaming means now

I feel like it's starting to become synonymous with "passable quality" with LEDs, colors, strange shapes, and buttons everywhere included.

"It does the things"

"Does it do it well?"

"Uh, no, it just does them."

Any recommendations @MayflowerElectronics

By the way, some of the less fickle equipment you buy (not-crap audio paraphernalia) is perfectly fine to buy used from a credible retailer and brand, or reputable ebay seller. You should be able to get some decent stuff second hand for 250$ if you so choose.

Oh very clever, but obviously you haven't lived in Canada long enough to realise that the best is Alberta.

Edit: wow, that's a steal, thanks.

Haha, it's the only province I've heard people say that about. Every time I've lived out there and told people I'm from BC, they give me this look like I'm crazy and ask why I'd ever leave.

I miss the Alberta of a decade ago, when it was actually cheap.

At least they still have that low tax rate if you make over $50,000/yr

Yeah, it's definitely a good deal.

I just hate how the volume is on the rear of the monitor.

I was just about to go for them, but then I saw that I would have to buy some adapters and do some finagling with the cables.

Edit: I seem to have found that the cables are only $5.

I can personally recommend the A2+'s, the bass is present, although you will not find it as well flushed out as with larger monitors (M-Audio), or with use of a sub, meaning you'll be able to hear with distinction the Bass or double bass in your music, but it won't be as heavy. The A2+'s also have an included Usb Dac functionality. I can't comment on the Corsair speakers as I personally haven't listened to them. If you can go out to the store try and give the different speaker set-ups a listen. If you were to go with a set of bookshelf speakers, you can always add in a sub later. My issue with the 2.1 setups from companies such as Logitech and Cosair, is you lose the modular aspect, for instance you can have a set of psb speakers, hooked up to a pioneer receiver, aided by a Klipsch sub. In the end, always do more research and even ask more questions.

I was looking around at different options today, and found this.

Not sure how much use it'd be to you. Personally I love having volume control on the desk, and the keyboard I'm getting doesn't come with a nice volume wheel or anything of that nature.

Just download (on PC, then on Android or iOS) the Roccat Power Grid app, it does that for free with much more functionality.

Iiiiiinteresting that's actually pretty sweet.

I wonder if they have a tablet optimized app or just the one.
