How to evenly split memory to 2 Hard Drives

Go to solution Solved by X1XNobleX1X,

Will it change something in my system? And is there any chance of my data getting lost? (Thank you for your help by the way)

To run drives in JBOD, you need to set you motherboard in Raid mode (in the bios)!

And then as the rig boots. You see it say something like press "Ctrl+I" to enter Raid setup!

You go into there, and make an Array and where it says what type of raid. You choose JBOD

But the trouble is! Going from IDE or AHCI mode to Raid will most likely mean you have to re-install the OS!

Although you might be OK going from AHCI to Raid! I'm not sure

But anyway, JBOD is in the Raid menu

Hello there guys!,

I've been a fan of Linus for a long time 2 or even 3 years and after watching his videos that long i thought i learned enough things to go ahead and build my own rig so for a year i was collecting money from birthdays and other similar situations that people gift each other in my country so after a year that i was collecting money from my job and birthdays (and etc) i decided what i would include in my build so i went ahead bought the items and i builded my current rig so after 3 months that i kept putting money aside from my job i went ahead and bought another HDD ( I now have 2 1TB WD Caviar blue's) So i will get straight to the point! How will i split (if it is possible evenly) my memory?

I Believe many people will not understand what my question is but i don't think there is another way to describe my thinking.

So guys please excuse me for my really bad english and if you have any questions please feel free to ask me if you are able to help !

Thank you for reading!  :D

2 disks in raid 0 means that you get the full capacity of both drives and faster access times however if one fails then your whole array fails.

raid 1 means you get the storage of a single drive, but if one fails then you still have all your files.

Partitions work exactly the same as single drives and you can install your OS on almost any "RAID" you choose is best for your needs.

if you're adding an extra disk after you already set up windows, then doing any sort of RAID would mean wiping the data that is there and starting again. (make a backup)

Or just use it as extra storage and leave it as a separate disk.

To be fair, i thought JBOD was just a term for any group of disks just running individually, but apparently it's a form of RAID where you can create a single volume from random disks from the sound of it here?

if you dont want to mess around setting it up again, then just plug the new drive in and format it in device manager and that will be the easiest option.

Yeah, you can do what you want. I'm still not sure what you mean in the OP by "splitting memory" though.

I Meant to put like 50% in one HDD and 50 in the other HDD but you described me how that is not possible (Anyway i think this threat is over you answered my question so can i make this look like answered or something? :P) I'm a newbie here :D

Just for future reference, memory refers to RAM. When talking about hard drives and storage, memory does not mean data stored on the drives.
