Media Player for Music and Movies

 

■  Sound through the whole house speaker system.

■  Video to TV's on the second level, main level and basement by wireless router, if thats not stable then hardwired.

■  Plays from a list of musical playlists from the server pc itself.

■  Hook up an i-Pod or an i-Pad.

■  Plug in a USB stick and play music or movies.

■  Organized folders of media with a very good interface, or just use O/S.

 

What other components should I buy?

Better GPU like a GTX-750ti ?

SSD 128GB or 256GB ?

New 1-2TB 7200rpm ?

RAM is Mushkin Blackline PC3-12800 9-9-9-24 and matched (3x2GB) x2 = 12GB

 

PSU is Corsai CX500 Green Label 500W

 

GPU is GTX 650

 

HDD's are 500G 7200rpm x3 Seagates

 

CD/DCD Writer/Reader

 

Case is Velocity ATX

Rear Case Fan

 

O/S is W7 64 Bit

I am somewhat knowledgeable on Linux, I have installed X-Ubuntu, L-Unbuntu and one or two others.

I assume that this media server will be in some separate room? If not - silent PSU, silent CPU cooler and pc case with one or at most two silent fans is "must be". And of course HDD drives must be silent, so WD Blue 5400 over Seagate 7200. Or big SSD.

A lot of old computer components are sold very cheaply, so I might look into those and see, atleast price equivelances for price.
