It depends on the game.  They trade blows based on this: http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-R9-290X-vs-AMD-RX-580/2166vs3923

But it seems overall the 580 would be better

My Sapphire R9 290X just died and I was thinking of picking up the XFX RX 580 OC+. Would I get similar if not better performance? Also please don't suggest Nvidia cards as I'm running a FreeSync monitor so I'd prefer to stick with AMD. Thanks!

Ya I tried looking for some comparison charts but I noticed most places don't have the custom cards, only the reference ones. But I guess they give a decent comparison between the two. Really the plan was to get a 580 for ~$250 for the time being and then save up for a Vega 56. But thanks :)

They perform roughly the same. I would recommend a used Fury X, 980ti (It's Nvidia but they're going cheap now), or a Vega 56.

That's an F in the profile pic
