Second Hand 1080/1080Ti?

Im looking at buying a second hand graphics card, mostly 1080s, and TI's

 

Is there any make cards i should stay away from? And can anyone suggest cards? I was looking at the Asus Strix as that seems to be the best card.

Stay away from blower styles cards and especially the Asus Turbo cards. Other than that Zotac amp extreme, EVGA FTW, HoF, and strix are all the best

Just keeping this here as a Aside from that, no Zotac or msi open air cards. They are crap. 

 

I’d only buy Asus or evga myself.

The blower style if they were used for mining probably destroyed the VRMs. Many times they don't get adequate cooling

The amp extreme is a much better cooler than EVGAs offerings. It's half a slot larger though. I agree with the MSI part though except for the new Tri X ones

I'd gotten a Leadtek GTX1080 Hurricane OC that was used as a mining card for about 6 months, I have it installed in my 2600K HTPC rig and it's going a great job for games at 4K (no max ingame setting for recent and newer games, max out all older games). My situation was different in that I got to collect the card directly from the seller who gave me the receipt for his card dated February this year, and tested the card to get to POST (a dead card would start and end with a blank screen). The warranty's good for 3 years. Pretty safe bet, so I paid for it without hesitation. The card was a little dusty, got it cleaned up with a can of compressed air and an unused paint brush....buying online from someone you don't meet is a tad more daunting

Don’t care for the looks of the Zotac cooler. Evga is neutral, they will perform the same in a case. So bugger isn’t always better. Another reason I didn’t care much for my strix. The board is great, the cooler isn’t great.

I had EVGA blower fan a 660 Gtx and blowers run hot. I won't get a blower ever again, they took it in a replaced it but yeah. Stay away from blowers. I'm surprised guys out there are buying second hand mining cards.. Abused Although your call if you can get it cheap probably a decent amount of 1070's going to hit the streets soon.

Again, if you're buying online, then yeah, you could end up with a dying card, or a fake one at worst, a fake card. But in my case, I have a receipt for the card and it covers three years from February 2018, so I've still got more than two years of warranty left. I've tried the card for games and so far, it works like a charm with nary a hint of issue, guess I lucked out. Though I dislike Asus, I'd take it over an EGVA card....

Don’t see the issue with a mining card. Most people have no idea how it works or how it’s done. Just assume that using a device is killing it. Saying it like there’s actual evidence out there supporting any claims. Use is use. Not to be confused with the conditions of said use.
