Would get a lot more use out of this thread if details were provided and not just screenshots.

What more is there to add? How does one show off a custom desktop with anything more or less than a screenshot?

oof - then post specs and other software feature screenshots. More photos is still nice...

Specs are in the lower right terminal :) Not much else to show though, just different workspaces with chrome and steam opened up. Looks identical though, just with a browser open instead of a few terminals.

I'm surprised you're as clueless as you are, the unixporn subreddit is pretty popular / known. It's literally just about showing the customization you've made to linux. All the colors in that screenshot are custom picked by me, those bars are custom made by me, the configuration of the tiling is made by me, the color / transparency / blur is custom configured by me. Just about showin off your own lil style

My rice:

Distro: Arch linux

VM: i3-gaps

I like to be in control. Also i like to be on bleeding edge. Ubuntu is so .......uum BORING! That's why i use arch linux. I hate ubuntu that's not real linux. It decides itself what to install and what not. You delete one package and somehow another gets installed. It's pulling in all the dependencies optionals and main too. It also is full of bloat. You have 2400+ packages i have 886 and my system is fully functional with many development programs for my work and also hobby. IoT and other things. All the core programs are chery picked to be lightweight. Like urxvt terminal, ranger file manager, mupdf, transmission-cli and so on. So that they use little RAM. Bar on top is i3blocks. I wrote scripts which run fast so that they consume little to no energy when are ran. I use RTMIN option for them to renew information so that they do not have to be ran frequently, just when the info needs to change.  batteries are updated every 20 seconds, temperature every 15 seconds (they also change color on load) and time every minute. Near power icon is uptime that's updated every 10 minutes like time.

I also wrote service which checks and downloads any updates and shows little icon on that bar with number of packages which can be upgraded. You click on that icon and it opens terminal and asks for confirmation. This is the best thing i have done in this setup. To download updates background is super easy and when you install them it happens instantly.

I also have some scripts which backup my configuration my files, clean old packages, clear cache and so on.

Soon i am going to switch disto. I want to get rid of systemd. It's THE worst thing in my setup. I want to try artix linux which uses openrc and then i'll try void linux. I want my system to use less then 128 MB RAM on fresh start. It's achivable. I like simple lightweight setup.

P.S. difference between htop and screenfetch ram usage is because i have my firefox profile in RAM. There is a service which copies profile to the RAM on startup and then copies it back on SSD when powering off. This way SSD does not wear out as much and also firefox is faster. I also have it's cache in RAM. I have many other optimizations for SSD so that it won't wear out fast.

Computer users fall into two groups:
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.

This is far from the world of Unix Porn, but I like my generic KDE desktop and GUI :P
Several things first, before you go and say "Hey, that hardly looks light weight", well A) I'm far from worried about that and B) I have a crap ton of tabs open atm and a fresh boot is far lower. Also don't worry about me making a freakishly large swap partition, I did that for my amusement. Oh and GTK apps using a light theme, it's so I don't need to go fixing Firefox as it's a hayday when altering those settings and I have like one other GTK app that uses the theme at all.
