Need new drive for games

Alright I currently have a 500gb Evo 850 as boot drive with some programs and games I use alot,

but all other stuff is on my 2TB HDD and currently I'm at 1,5TB/1,8TB so instead of cleaning it up I want to buy a new drive and either make my old drive the one for games or my new drive (idk if there are problems when moving game files).

Another 2TB will suffice I guess

My questions:

•  What kind of drive do I get a HDD or SSHD?
• Get an optane with an HDD, will this help in games?
• I only know WD and seagate are there brands I should consider?
• What's with all the colors of HDD's? (Black, Red, Blue)

Adding HDD if you have not enough space is good decission. Better than copying everything to bigger drive.

Motherboards have 6 SATA connectors so you can add many drives without delete, move or copy anything. Just use new drive for new stuff. I have 4 HDD and 2 SSD connected and everything works.

 

What kind? HDD, not SSHD if this is your choice (I assume that SSD is not an option because of price).

Colors? If you mean WD then Green/Blue are slower than Black, but you probably don't notice any bigger difference. I'm using green/blue as storage devices and I'm happy - they're silend and fast enough for data drives.

SSHD in my opinion is the better choice if you can spare money to pay for the premium.

Optane will only help you if you play the same games and these games has to load the maps and everything else just once, games don't work like that thus making Optane not a valid option. (I'm not saying that it won't help in some cases but I think that it's not worth it right now)

Kinda every brand name has performance and budget options but for HDD/SSHD these 2 especially the WD are enough, maybe you can look at some Toshiba's ? For SSDs I prefer Samsung 800/900 series.

Optane will only help you if you play the same games and these games has to load the maps and everything else just once, games don't work like that thus making Optane not a valid option. (I'm not saying that it won't help in some cases but I think that it's not worth it right now)

You argued one way on SSHD, and then contradicted yourself on the next point.

And SSHD is a regular platter HDD with a small SSD board, so really it works in a very similar fashion to optane; it learns your usage habits and pre-loads data that is used regularly. This is why they supposedly make good boot drives if for some reason you can't use a true SSD.

I recently got a Seagate Firecuda 1Tb as a drive for storage, as well as my steam library. I only went SSHD because it was a good deal, in games it doesn't feel any different to a regular HDD.

 

Although it is nice to use from the desktop with snappy response, as it doesn't have to spin up the moment you access it. but it does eventually.

I contradicted myself as I stated "If you're willing to pay for the premium" as SSHD are waay cheaper than optane technology which I said "I don't think it's worth it" in gaming.
I don't see the problem.

2 CPUs can do the same calculations but with vast performance difference one could be cheap and do the job the other one can be over expensive and out of reach for most of the people.

You said that Optane was not a valid option because of the way it worked would not benefit the way games loaded....but then you also suggested an SSHD as the 'better choice' over a regular HDD, despite it working the same way as Optane.

At no point did you compare the SSHD and Optane directly, or bring up the relative costs between the two? But now you're implying you were??
