Hi there! I am looking to upgrade my CPU but my friend said my motherboard can only handle certain ones. I currently have an Intel I5 3470S and heard I can only upgrade to third generation CPU’s with the same LGA 1150 connection thingy. Any help is appreciated, Even just a list of better I5’s and I7’s that are possible to upgrade to would help a lot! Thanks :)

What other specs do you have? How much are you looking to spend?

Intel 3XXX cpus are 1155 so 3770 is as high as you can, unless you got a Z series chipset then you could get 3770K with a decent cooler and overclock it.

If you want to stay cheap, find a used 3770k for like $100-200.

If you want to spend $500+ then wait for the new 9000 series, and change your motherboard + CPU together.
