Advice Needed- System Reset

PeterD87

Hi all,

Long story short I've managed to completely break the Microsoft store, nothing will download; (Error Code: 0x80070015). This is inconvenient for playing Forza.

I know why this is happening, I previously brute force disabled Cortana and many other windows features by following guides (with large warnings) found online, without knowing what I was doing or documenting the process. I've tried all the troubleshooting techniques google throws up for the above error.

So my question is: Will resetting windows 10 using the built in reset feature restore all the changes I've made to registries, and restore any system files I may have deleted/ disabled. Should I select the "keep your files" option, or just copy the stuff I want over to the storage drive. Alternatively, do I need to flat out format my boot drive and do a clean install via usb. I have the windows 10 key I purchased directly from Microsoft on file.

Thanks!

Choose keep my files option when doing reset. Any 3rd party apps you installed will need to reinstall after system reset.

DO NOT USE this function, you should make a win10 usb from media creation tool and reinstall win10.

if you choose the reset function , it takes ages

Still getting the download error, will now try a clean reinstall.

Final update:

Using the reset feature without keeping my files was similarly unsuccessful; and had the added benefit of denying me permission to access the C drive or launch programs unless in safe mode.

Futzing around with USB booting dbam to nuke my boot m.2 proved similarly unsuccessful, for modern driver reasons as far I can tell (got it to boot but no drives detected).

Finally I gave up in being fancy, put in my windows recovery USB, used that interface to delete all present partitions, and reinstall windows. This seams to have been successful, as the Forza demo is now downloading.

TLDR: I formatted my boot drive and reinstalled my OS to download a game off of Microsoft's lovley store.
