8th gen i5 costs less than either GPU, or it should.

If the 1070 is that cheap (under ~300 USD), Id go ahead and buy it.  You can upgrade the CPU later.

The gtx 1070 will work fine with an i3 8100.

The earlier i3s were dual core, that is why they were big bottlenecks, but afaik the i3 8100 is a quad core, so it will work very fine with an gtx 1070, so no big bottleneck at all.

I would get the gtx 1070 if you feel like you are lacking performance, it should last a long time.

The 1070, it will be useful once you can afford an i5.

That said, a 7th gen i5 works too.

CPU: Ryzen 9 5900X          Case: Antec P8     PSU: Corsair RM850x                        Cooler: Antec K240 with two Noctura Industrial PPC 3000 PWM

None really, maybe clocks.  7th gen i7 would be ideal.

The i3 8100 wont bottleneck the gtx 1070.

It is a 3.6ghz 4 core 4 thread, so equal to an i5 7400(3.5ghz 4c/4t).
