Hello everybody, I just recently purchased a ASUS Maximus V Formula Motherboard and another GTX 660ti. Essentially what is happening is that I am not getting the SLI option in my nVidia control panel therefor not allowing me to enable SLI. Below I will list things that I have tried as well as the components in my pc.

Components

 - ASUS Maximus V Formula

 - Galaxy GTX 660ti (2GB)

 - ASUS GTX 660ti (2GB)

 - 850w fully modular PSU

 - i5 3570k (not currently being overclocked)

 - 16GB vengeance ram running at 1600MHz

 - 1TB Caviar Blue, 1TB Caviar Black, 160GB Samsung SSD

What I have tried

 - Uninstalling/Re-installing Drivers

 - Switching cards around to make sure both cards work

 - bought new SLI bridge

 - dusted out PCIe slots

 - made sure computer recognized 4gigs of available memory

 - running with card just in second slot - doesn't work

 - running with card just in third slot - doesn't work (any way to make this slot SLI enabled?)

I feel like I may be forgetting to mention some things but those are the main things that I tried. I really don't think the PCIe slot is broken because the computer is acknowledging the other cards existence but it just isn't putting it to use. Also in the bios when I have 1 card in it says "GPU NAME x16" when I have both in it replaces the x16 with x8. Maybe I am missing a switch on the board or a setting in bios that I am just not seeing, I would really appreciate some help here.

Thanks,

Jake

Single card will run at 16x and two will run at 8x and 8x, to answer the latter of your post.

Can you post a screenshot of the Nvidia control panel in the "Configure SLI, Surround, Physx" section?

What power supply do you have?

I like to use the following guide when removing old drivers and installing new ones. It's the manual method, but it ensures everything is being removed. http://www.overclock.net/t/1150443/how-to-remove-your-nvidia-gpu-drivers

I had this exact same problem with a set of 670's. Did you check the option of a 'clean install' when updating your graphics card drivers?

After a clean install and a restart a dialogue box appeared notifying me that an SLI option was available, leading me to the nvidia control panel where the option to configure SLI had appeared.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for all of the replies, the power supply is called the "Ultra X4 Modular 850 Watt"

I have also thought that the PCIe slot is broken but its weird that the board recognizes the card is in the slot. I feel like it shouldn't recognize it if the slot doesn't work.

I have tried a clean install of the drivers but I will give it another shot.

Please give the guide I posted a try. It's important to remove and install new drivers properly (that's not to say you aren't, but if you follow the guide and the problem persists, you'll be able to factor out a driver issue).

What BIOS version did the motherboard come with? If it's not the latest, flash to the latest using the EZ Flash utility in the BIOS. After that's done, clear your CMOS.

Let me know how that goes.

You're using up the first two PCIe slots right?

This happened to me me when i first built my rig.  the only way i got it to notice both and then put it in sli was
1. have only one card in and install the latest drivers

2.then turned it off and plugg in the other card (with out sli ribbon)<--this was to test and see if it saw i had a 2nd gtx
if it does not see it 2nd gtx, switch the cards. like if the Asus card is in the 1st PCI-e port and the galaxy in the 2nd PCI-e port, switch them.  Yes it sound stupid but it worked for me, so.

3. connected the two cards with the sli ribbon

this is the only way i got my sli config to work. hope it helps :)

Yeah I have tried the first 2, 1 and 3, and 2 and 3. No luck with any of the combinations.

Have you gone into your BIOS to make sure that your second pcie slot is enabled allowing it to connect the two pcie lanes together allowing for SLI?

Looked for an option on how to enable the second pcie slot, but couldn't find it. If you know of an option with this motherboard then please do tell me.

What freezeflyte said. You have to go into BIOS and set the PCI-e slot speed to 8x 8x for the first two slots. (asa  reference slot 1 is closest to the cpu)

Also if you know where the option is, please tell me, something I have been looking for in bios for quite some time now.

I didn't have to do that with my motherboard. It automatically changed them to 8x when I installed the second 780.

It all depends on the mobo. Check your mobo handbook or manual and it should tell you how to enable the second slot. But thats if your board allows sli, some only offer crossfire and some offer both if any. Check your books.
