i am going to build a pc with ryzen 1600 and people are telling me to stay away from amd as they often fail quickly compared to intel systems.A computer technician also confirmed this by saying that most the computers he assembled with amd failed quickly.is this true?

They are blowing smoke up your bum. Ryzen CPUs are fantastic chips.

I certainly haven't seen any mention of this, you'd think this forum would be full of reports if it was true.

The folks you asked seem to be running on outdated info. Ryzen CPUs are great chips.

You might want to take a look at a 2600 and B450 board. The 2600 is only slightly more expencive and the B450 boards are starting to beat the B350 boards on price.

As the others above said, this is flat out false. They're going off of old information.

AMD is back in the game with Ryzen and Threadripper. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RMbYe4X2LI This video here compares against the Kaby Lake I5. It's pretty comparable. But no one buys a kaby lake CPU brand new (usually). Coffee Lake is the latest in Intel CPUs, it outperforms the 1600 notable, but the 2600 closes that gap (mostly). AMD Ryzen is exceptional value. If you're rendering or using programs that like many cores/threads, and/or heavily multitasking, then Ryzen is likely the choice of chip.

Your CT's are talking about the old Bulldozer FX lineup. It wasn't really good from the start and it's definitely not good now. Even the new Pentiums trade blows with the FX 9590 "flagship" chip. The FX are great overclockers, but their single core speeds were far behind Intels, making them nonoptimal for gaming. The only advantage AMD had here, was encoding and maybe rendering.

as everyone has stated it's outdated information :D Ryzen is fantastic especially the Second Gen, don't like First Gen much, it was very meh.

so consider buying a Ryzen 5 2600 with a B450 board.

My nephew is rocking an Fx 6300 on an Asus M5A97 Mobo. Other nephew is using an A10-6800k APU on an MSI A88(something) Mobo. Both of them play & stream WoW & Overwatch on those systems.

My kids are playing with a Phenom II 940(?) On an Asus Mobo. All no issues, all 3-5+ years old hardware.

It all depends on the manufacturer. Stick to reputable brands, take care of it & it will last. My sister had a Core 2 Intel system that was plagued by issues because she bought the cheapest she could find.
