Yeah, that cable will not work because Chromecast only has HDMI output.

There are soundbars that have what you're looking for:

Try googling "soundbar with HDMI passthrough".

I am currently looking for a soundbar that would be compatible with a monitor that I have, that, unfortunately, is not equipped with any audio output channels.

Fortunately, it has an HDMI input port, currently used for a Chromecast stick. As of now, the idea is to find a sound bar with an HDMI input and an HDMI output, plug the Chromecast into the soundbar and use the HDMI output to feed into the TV.

Have anyone around here tried this? is it even possible? If yes, what would be reasonably priced soundbars (<200$) that could support such an approach?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

HDMI for video and a soundbar that takes a 3.5mm audio jack. Although I just realized what I linked was not quite what I thought it was, I had something like an HDMI to HDMI+3.5mm splitter in mind.

Yes this should work.  The video from the Chromecast will go through the HDMI out to the TV and the audio will be put out from the soundbar.  No different to how a reciever works in a home theatre.

Yeah I mistakenly posted what I thought was an HDMI to HDMI + audio jack splitter, which would allow for use of more sound bars than just pass through.
