Motherboard posts, shuts down 20 seconds later

Go to solution Solved by paddy-stone,

I'd strip it down to basic needs and try again, sounds like it might be a PSU problem or that the system needs too much power, so taking out most components might make it work, then you can go from there adding back in stuff. It might even be a device issue, had that before where a USB device was stopping PC from booting properly.

I just updated the bios on my ECS P67H2-A3 and it boots and then shuts down afters 20 seconds. When I say boots I mean just shows the bios screen. If I press the delete key it says entering setup but still shuts down. It used to not boot at all until I removed some ram.

I’m guessing my bios is toast and I need a new mobo.

Oh yeah specs

asus gtx970

i7-2600k

p67hs-a3

cx500

since changing the ram changed stration, your motherboard might not be compatible with that Ram

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Still nothing. I tried putting a pentium in it too and it wont boot and turns off after displaying the motherboard logo for 20seconds

Alright so I put in my gtx 560 and it booted right up fine. The bios just doesn’t work with the 970 after the update. I either have to revert back to the old bios or find a setting in the bios that’s making the graphics card not work.

That sounds like a good question to send to customer support, since that sort of thing is never supposed to happen, but nothing is really broken so you don't have to agonize over RMA

That is indeed a weird problem... glad you got the PC working again though.
