Mic Not Picking Up Sound?!

Do you have Cortana or whatever that B*****'s name is? I turned her off one day because she would pick up on certain things I said. I turned her off and didn't use my mic for a few days. Tried to use it and it wouldn't! I looked and looked for like 2 weeks no lie lol. Given I only tried to fix it for 5 minutes at a time on separate days.

Anyway: Cortana felt the need to go switch my app settings. It turned off application access to my microphone entirely rather than just having the Cortana program turned off.

Check your app settings and see if your microphone has access to apps.

Hello!

So recently I've found out that my mic wasn't picking up sound.
Its recognized by the pc, but when I go to sound and recording I can see the mic connected but when I talk it dosen't pick up anything (the bar dosen't go green)...

Start > Settings > Privacy > Microphone

Make sure "Allow apps to access your microphone" is enabled, and the program is listed bellow, in the list of apps, that is it also has permission for it (it is fine if you don't see the app you are using. But if it is there, it needs to be enabled)

Aside from that, check Microphone volume in Windows.

What are you talking about, it has nothing to do with his problem.

you said exactly what I said, except you cut it out of the quote. I was just giving a long story and then finished the whole thing off by saying "Check your app settings and see if your microphone has access to apps"

Which is the same as what you said -->

Ok, so check that your microphone is properly connected, and that the volume for the microphone is up (double click on the microphone in the sound panel).

You can also try the Troubleshooter:

Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshooting > Recording Audio.
