Cooling for new build

Hi everyone,

 

I am in the process of upgrading a few components of my PC, one of them being the CPU and Cooler.

The CPU I choose is the i5-8600 and right now I am not sure if I should go with air cooling or liquid cooling...

 

The options I considered for both cases where:

• Corsair Hydro Series H80i v2
• Noctua NH-U14S

I don't plan on overclocking the CPU.

What do you guys think? Should I go with water cooling or stick to air? Are the options I choose good or do you recommend something else?

edit: its the i5-8600 not the i5-8600k

Why are you using this kind of cooling for a cpu you're not going to overclock?

Why are you buying a k sku cpu is you aren't overclocking. Sounds like you should just get the 8700 (non-k)

 

edit: the 8700 comes with a cooler 2

Yeah. That's a good CPU. Get it. But you don't need an aftermarket cooler. The stock one is fine

 

I know someone who has a 7700 with stock cooler and they are fine.

another simple questions to answer yourself if you have to choose high end premium "accessories" for a mid range CPU

do you like the look of the cooler? thats all

 

any 9cm fan sized with 2-4 heatpipes unbranded coolers will serve this i5 great

If you REALLY want an after market cooler, get something like a hyper T2 or hyper 212. There are plenty of serviceable air coolers out there under $30. No reason to spend more.

It's loud.

 

 

OP: get a Cryorig m9i or h7. Both are excellent coolers and in the case of the h7, you can reduce the fan speed to very low for a quiet build.

Not if you don't overclock it's not.

I don't want to go with the stock cooler, so its aftermarket for me.

If I understand correctly water cooling is overkill since I am not going to overclock, so you would recommend something along the lines of the Noctua I suggested above?

i am running a Gammaxx 300 and it's very quiet and quite small. It got it for 16$ CAD on sales but usually in the 30$ CAD. at full load during gaming (on games using all cores like Vermintide 2) on all 6 CPU it keep the processor in the 42-45ºC

since you're not overclocking, don't bother with the 8600k and get a locked i7 and B360 board instead, an M9i, aidos or hyper 212 will do, get whichever is cheaper.

Thanks a lot for all of the feedback guys, you cleared the doubts I had regarding the CPU cooler. 

Basically, since I am not going to overclock stick to air cooling and no need to go too high in price for the air cooler. 

I will take into account the suggestions you guys made
