GTX 1080 FPS Drop

GEREddie
Go to solution Solved by GEREddie,

Guys thank you all for your help, I just fixed the problem, I opened MSI Afterburner, and I realized that my GPU usage was at 60%, so I did a little search, and I found a video, I will link it below, that helped a lot, the problem was the RAM, I just had to enable XMP profile, now my FPS avrage is 92!

Hello Everyone, I have an FPS problem with GTA V, my FPS never goes above 60, and when I go to an area where there is a lot of grass, it drops to 45 FPS sometimes less, and as you can see from the pictures below showing the graphics settings, I have Vsync off

PC Specs:

CPU: i5-7600K @ 3.80 GHz "I didn't overclock it"
Mobo: ASRock Z270 Extream 4
RAM: 16 GB DDR4
Hyperx Fury
GPU: MSI GTX 1080

You have all your settings realy high so I don't think it's too much of a surprise that the FPS can drop when looking at grass (which is set to ultra). I wouldn't be surprised if your CPU is sometimes limiting.

That being said, it shouldn't cap at 60 fps. Could you check nVidia control panel and make sure v sync is off there as well?

And make sure you do it by hitting the quote button at the bottom left of my post, and not the one inside the editor!

did you run a heavy benchmark and watch to see if your hitting the power limit on your gpu?

msi afterburner will allow you to fix that and even safely overclock the GPU. watch jaystwocents video on this that he posted within the last 6 months or so.

I also found that replacing the thermal compound of the gpu will greatly reduce temps on some cards.

No, I don't think the setting is too high because I didn't have this problem before, with the same hardware and settings I used to get an average of around 90 FPS, I thought maybe because I didn't update the drivers for a while but, I just did, and the FPS is still locked at 60!

Hence why I'm pretty sure your FPS is limited, perhaps by v sync. Could you check in the nvidia control panel to make sure v sync is off there?

though I do agree with you that doesn't explain the under 60FPS. Also in his original post he stated V-sync was off. could it be a setting within the game itself limiting to 60FPS

V sync is off inside the game; it's possible it's set to force it on in game in the Nvidia control panel.

Guys thank you all for your help, I just fixed the problem, I opened MSI Afterburner, and I realized that my GPU usage was at 60%, so I did a little search, and I found a video, I will link it below, that helped a lot, the problem was the RAM, I just had to enable XMP profile, now my FPS avrage is 92!

when you choose your XMP profile did you choose the same speed that you were already at for your RAM? or did you choose a higher or lower speed?
