Is my PSU enough??

Mikelovebx

Im not sure if my PSU is enough to power my current build. This is my first ever built PC, in the Partpicker list I have a gtx 1060. Im currently running a 1050ti but I wanna UG to a 1060 and dont wanna have to buy another PSU if I dont have to, and also dont wanna manage wires again (eye roll) Like I said before this is the first PC ive built and If I knew better I would have gone fully modular, but I have a non modular PSU. I will get one and rewire everything if I have to but would prefer to save the time and money if I dont. (Current PSU non modular) So is my PSU enough for this build? Thanks for your help

I have an 8600K overclocked and a GTX 1060 and I run a 450W power supply. Mine is stable since my system at full load uses a max of 250W give or take. You've also chosen the same PSU as me.

By the way, I love your choice of cooler.

No problem at all! Glad the confusion is out the way.

450W is probably the minimum I'd go for an 8700K + GTX 1060 setup. You could go for a 550W PSU like a Corsair RM550X so you have yourself room for a GTX 1070 in the future.

By the way, I love your cooler choice. Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi is the sexiest cooler around town.

Know your PSU will not be quiet becouse it's almost under full load. I would get something better like a 550 or if possible even higher. Just a oppinion, you can technicly run it

Yes, but the psu is really low end. With such a solid cpu you should get something better like a focus, g1+/g2/g3 or rmx/rmi. Also get 2x16gb ram instead.

You are aware your build is really lopsided towards cpu and ram right?

I am, Im slowly upgrading. I started with a new CPU (UG from a i5 7500) Then to ram (1 8g stick) and now I planned on upgrading GPU and PSU next.

The PSU is really low end. It should run it fine, but it will definitely not be ideal. Expect a fan RPM of ~1500, and seriously consider upgrading to a ~$50 PSU. Formula 450W, Whisper M 450W, Focus 450W etc. The benefits will be lower noise and that the components should last longer.

Definitely get a much better PSU tho. Otherwise looks pretty solid, though you could consider getting a BX500 for SSD instead.

That system will use less than 300W under load and maybe 300W with OC.

That's not a very good PSU. A Corsair CX450M or Cooler Master MasterWatt 450 would be a much better unit. You can afford an 8700K so you should at least spend 50 bucks on a PSU.

What are you doing exactly where you need the top-end i7 and a much lower-end GPU?

Power isn't the issue, Quality is.

As a normal Desktop Build with mid range components is somewhere in the 200W range, you don't need more than 400W.

BUT:
You should get a better quality PSU, if possible. Because a bad PSU will reduce the lifetime of your components while a good PSU enhances it. So it makes sense to invest a bit more in the PSU.
