They only leak if you make a mistake, usually as long as you don't cut corners whether in time or money you will be fine, there are precautions you can take to reduce leaks, such as using distilled water. Theres always a risk reward with these kinds of things, and its only worth it, if you actually NEED the cooling you can get from custom water coolers.

Air coolers are good enough. If you ever feel your air cooler isn't doing enough for you, you can always switch.

Downgrading to air from liquid when your PC has had a leak is more costly.

IMO custom loops give you great temps and look awesome but aren't worth the hassle. You can easily drop $400+ on a loop that you could have spent on a better CPU, GPU, Memory and so on. But there is the side of me that also wants the absolute maximum overclocks so of course you would use a custom loop

Remember that not all custom loops are more silent than air cooling. Some pumps are noisy. Air coolers don't have that problem :P

 

Oh yeah, would totally have it for the looks. But air coolers are so good these days, I ask myself if it is worth the price. You can get a nice Optane drive for that money and have a more snappy feeling PC as a result.

If you don't know what you are doing or a fitting fails, that can happen. Also isn't much risk to a leak if the proper coolant is used.

If you have to ask, it prolly isn't for you.

In my experience, leaks won't take long to show themselves.

In fact, if this is your first time water cooling, I can guarantee that you'll catch a few leaks during your initial filling.

All it takes is a fitting that's not tight enough or getting forced off at an angle and that liquid will flow.

 

But it's not so bad.

You clean up, fix the faulty joint, and try again.

In this Liquid and Exotic Cooling, air cooler is not part of it. Enthusiasts have diff needs than pure performance.
