hughes051

Ok over the last few weeks I have asked about the 1050/1050ti card ( no idea what the differences are ) as i want to update my rig from a 550ti 1gb

so will this card be an upgrade from what have now?

MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 2GT LP 2 GB GDDR5 128 Bit Graphics Card

not to sure if low profile is any different from other cards

Brand new I get one for £120-£130

am i wasting my money?

games I play are AOE2/Crysis/Farcary,Cue,and COD Games etc on a 1080p 40" Sony smart tv I am not a heavy gamer mostly play AOE2 its just want to upgrade form the gtx550ti 1mb card I have or should I look at something else to spend my money on?

You can always look at your local used listings. You can probably pick up a GTX 970 for about the same price as a 1050 Ti, and it'll run games better. The 1050 Ti is just slightly more powerful than the 1050. Worth the extra couple bucks in my opinion if you go new.

My Build, v2.1 --- CPU: i7-8700K @ 5.2GHz/1.288v || MoBo: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming || RAM: 4x4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 2666 14-14-14-33 || Cooler: Custom Loop || GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC Black, on water || PSU: EVGA G2 850W || Case: Corsair 450D || SSD: 850 Evo 250GB, Intel 660p 2TB || Storage: WD Blue 2TB || G502 & Glorious PCGR Fully Custom 80% Keyboard || MX34VQ, PG278Q, PB278Q

I would get a used 1050Ti, and yes it would be a good performance increase over your current graphics card. Low profile cards have a smaller slot at the back to fit into small desktops, but I would just get the normal version if you have a regular-sized case.

Is that an i5 or an i3?  I hate to be upgrading the GPU then to discover later that you have a slow CPU.

Can you check by running CPU-Z what your exact processor is?

CPU: Sempron 2500+ / P4 2.8E / P4 2.6C / A64 x2 4000+ / E6420 / E8500 / i5-3470 / i7-3770

It's possible that CPU-Z is just not reading it correctly.

With that i5 CPU and a 1050 to 1050 Ti should be fine. Even a 1060 should be good on that setup. However, anything more powerful and you might encounter a bottleneck.
