What component would make an upgrade to my fps? (Bf V)

AldoEmmerth1

EDIT: after investigating more, the single channel ram is what makes it so bad, there are rigs with a 1050 2gb and dual channel ram (same amount but 2x4) that outperform my fps, also the 960 has been upgraded to a rx 580 8gb and a minimal increase was achieved, single channel ram still holding back, for anyone that relates to my issues.

Been playing the Battlefield V beta and my performance is not the greatest but I still manage to play, this was normal in Bf 1 but now its getting a little more unplayable; My specs:

I5-7500

Gtx 960 2gb updated  today

8gb of ddr4 at 2666 mhz (kingston savage, 1 stick)

Game and windows running on a WD blue 1tb with an Optane slapped to it

Im aware that the 2gb of vram is a weak point and 8gb is not being enough these days, I attach screenshots of usage of cpu, gpu and ram, only the game and MSI afterburner running. My question is, upgrading what would give me some extra performance?

Game is on medium (auto) with dx12 disabled (auto too), low settings barely make a difference in fps.

Any opinions are appreciated, thanks to all

You should get like a 1070 or 1070ti. get used they are pretty cheap now.

Your current build seems pretty balanced.

That said, your video card is lacking. I would update it to a 1070 first.

Past this, your RAM should be OK unless you do a lot of stuff in the background. And your CPU is tolerable. After the graphics card, I would consider buying another stick of the exact same RAM you have and running your RAM in dual channel for the benefits you'll get there. Then, I would suggest upgrading this to an i7 7700/7700k.

Also to consider...

Switching to an SSD will not only help with load times, but with loading textures for the games you play, which can also speed up your gaming performance.

Adding another 1x8GB stick of memory will help. I sit at about 11-12GB total system RAM usage when I play BFV (1440p Ultra). Not sure what it uses in 1080p, but I imagine it will be pushing the limits of 8GB. Lacking dual channel will hurt you as well. Should be able to get a 1x8GB stick of memory for around $75.

A new GPU will help as well. As you already know the 2GB of VRAM is going to hold you back, and you can already see in afterburner that it's showing about 1.9GB of VRAM usage. I'd go with at least a 1060 6GB if you are wanting to play BFV at 1080p High/Ultra with a solid framerate. You'd be looking at around $280-$300 for a new 1060 6GB, but you might be able to find one used on craigslist for around $200

Unfortunately the i5 7500 is also going to hold you back as well. You can already see at 1080p medium/low that you're sitting on 85% cpu usage in game. Battlefield V is very CPU intensive, and even if you do upgrade your memory and GPU you will likely find that you are being held back by your CPU. If you're looking at upgrading the CPU, then you may require a new motherboard as well. Depending what CPU cooler you have now, you may need to buy a new cooler as well. As you can see things start adding up quickly once you go down that path.

Keep in mind that this is still the Beta version of the game, and you may see optimisation and performance improvements when the game is fully released and through game updates, as well as through graphic card driver updates from Nvidia as well.

For now, turn settings down to low, disable AA, and make sure things like dynamic super resolution (DSR) is turned off in Nvidia control panel.

Thank you for that good comment, Ive been hunting for gpu prices and found a mispriced rx 580 for $300, it hasnt dropped from $500 here in Mexico, but every once in a while Amazon Mexico drops prices for no reason so grabbed that.

My next step will be the ram, only 2 available here, a 1x8 Adata stick and a 2x4 Corsair kit. I still have 3 slots left on my mobo and they cost almost the same, wich one would be a better choice? My present ram and these 2 ones have the same speed.

Normal prices for RX580s are between USD $230-$300. Seems like Mexico gets ripped off when it comes to computer parts, or at least graphics cards.
Regardless a RX580 would be a good choice. It should perform pretty similarly to the GTX 1060 6GB.

I'd still recommend seeing if you can find a stick of 8GB DDR4 memory to give yourself dual channel as well as increase to 16GB capacity. Looking at Amazon Mexico they seem to be starting at around 1850 peso ($95 USD) for a 8GB 2666MHz stick.

Yes, very hard, the only thing that doesnt inflate is Intel cpus and some monitor brands because they seem to be invested here.

Will cop the 1x8 Adata one after recovering from the gpu.

Thank you for your help sir.

I run BF1 with a RX 580 8GB and it works great. Your 2gb Ram on your GTX960 is pretty much obsolete for all the newer titles, i'd say you need at least 6gb's to play smoothly at High or Ultra settings. You could find some good used gpu's hitting the market after the mining crash or from those looking to upgrade to the new RTX GPU's. I'd shoot for at least a GTX 1060 or an RX 580.

You really do not want to mix and match RAM. What you really want is to buy another stick of 8GB 2666MHz Kingston Savage, with the exact same CAS latency (look at the stick you have, and buy that exact same SKU). Otherwise, buy a 2x8GB kit.

If you mix RAM brands, speeds, latency, mictotimings (those aren't advertized or obvious) then your PC will probably run worse, or might not even boot, if you try to run them in the same channel (slots 2 + 4 are typically one channel, slots 1 + 3 are the other channel).

I believe most motherboards are set up so that they don't want to run one stick of RAM in each channel...if you have two sticks, the motherboard wants them in the same channel.

For some reason the savage products are out of stock and not available in Mexico, I believe with the shortage they said fuck them.

I will try to order one and see what I can get, If not a 2x8 will have to be. Thank you

Just ordered one, Gigabyte gaming variant, did you do any special settings to it? or left yours as is?

I dont know if the switch from nvidia to amd requieres uninstalling current drivers

I have a few friends in the Guadalajara area. They run into the same issues of things not being available to them that...pretty much everywhere else can get.

That just sucks.

Yes some things you cant even get, and if you can, they are very overpriced.

You can buy stuff from US and get slapeed with import fees, I just  took the bullet and bought a rx580 for $248 + $50 of import fee

Sorry for the late reply, I pretty musch left mine stock but you can OC them to around 1450-1500mhz area if you get lucky.

To go from Nvidia to AMD you're going to have to install DDU and completely clean your system from Nvidia drivers. Then you install your new card and install your RX580 drivers. You might have to use your HD drivers when doing this. I can't remember if it was able to display an image throught the gpu without drivers or not.

Enjoy!
