Hello everyone, I am looking for a bit of advice here.

Currently my pc is running an i5 3330 with 8gb of ddr3 with an EVGA  gtx 960 acx 2.0+ 4gb. I've been wanting to upgrade MOBO, ram, and cpu for a while and I'm just about to sell a laptop for about 500$ and I want to use that to upgrade with. I plan to start a youtube channel with some friends after selling the laptop to one of them and I would be doing the editing. I am having trouble deciding if I should go with a Ryzen build or an i7, I want to go with 16gb of ram and a fairly good MOBO. I've looked around and come up with a few builds that could work within my budget but would like a second opinion on what I should do.

PS. I do plan to upgrade the GPU soon after to a 1070ti but I feel that the 960 should be enough to get me started for now.

Thanks, jspinski

I am thinking of going with something similar to this, If not this. How does that seem?

that seems good, but are you sure the cooler is compatible?

and i recommend changing the motherboard to X470 for the same price, the new boards have a higher quality than X370

Thanks, will certainly go that route, The cooler says It will fit an AM4 socket but if it doesn't then I will return it and get something that does

no problem :) and make sure to buy the same RAM that you listed, because it's very important.

You wanna get serious about streaming and editing? The r7 will be better as it has better multi threaded performance (Better multitasking).

Are you gonna mainly game with the occasional stream/recording? The i7 will be better as it has better single threaded performance (Better framerates).

If it were me, I'd wait for Zen 2 because it seems like it'll be a pretty notable leap from the current gen, but that is a long wait so it's perfectly understandable if you need something now. (And besides, don't worry about that too much because there will ALWAYS be something better coming, so don't fall into the "always waiting" trap.)

EDIT: Ah, someone beat me to it. Well, welcome to red country, brother.

I did some research on the cooler and it seems that stock it is not compatible with that MOBO, Any recommendations (preferably 50$ or cheaper)

I don't recommend a Hyper 212, that thing is super underpowered especially for higher-end CPUs. It's also a bitch to install.

you could get the Ryzen 7 1700 for much cheaper and use the cooler provided with the CPU, and overclock it if you're into that route.

or just get this https://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-Freezer-Threadripper-3-Phase-Motor-Regulation/dp/B075MYVW5J

it's made for Threadripper but it's also compatible with AM4 out of the box, so you're good there.

even this would be way better, if you don't want to pay the 100 extra, go with the 1700 and use the stock cooler, not the 1800x

just read the comatibility issue with the mobo, get the asrock pro4, instead

I think the second build posted here would be a good option, just unsure about it, I'm all new to AMD
