Upgrading from old rig

PandaHunter

I am planning to upgrade from my old rig.

CPU: i5-3570k

GPU: gtx 660

RAM: 16gb ddr3 1600 ram
Storage: 2tb HD, already added 500gb SSD on top of it
PSU: Swapped the old one to EVGA G+ 650w

Case: Already have something in mind

My budget is around $1500~1600 CAD for everything else that need to be upgraded. Also have a non stock CPU air cooler and a case, so dont have to worry about them (for now?).

I basically just game, occasionally streaming. I am planning to get a 1440p 144hz or 4k 60hz monitor once I upgrade to my new rig. Not a heavy FPS player and no VR if thats help.

There is no strong reason for upgrading aside from I want to play new games smoothly at high setting.

I dont mind waiting for a bit if thats the best option.

That is the best option for you then. 9th gen Intel CPUs are anticipated to be released sometime over the next couple months or so.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

I would say just upgrade your GPU at the moment,  that's where you'll see/feel the biggest gains, prices are dropping fast with RTX almost here.

The 3570k is still a pretty nifty chip for gaming,  maybe overclock it if you haven't already and get a little extra boost.

Then enjoy it while keeping an eye on the 9th gen Intel chips price/performance.  Usually best to wait a few months post release before deciding, most often there's a lack of optimisation for new hardware along with some little bugs and teething issues along the way.

Agree with Glenalz81, don't bother upgrading your whole PC your CPU is plenty enough for any modern game. You won't notice any speed boosts from a CPU upgrade. Just toss your GPU and get a new one once the RTX series comes out the 1000 series will be cheaper :)  with a new GPU you should be able to play any game on the highest settings.

You have a solid base, stick with it, just upgrade.

Find a 3770k, just drop it into your current system.

Upgrade your GPU, grab a 1080ti.

Save the rest of your cash, or build a custom water loop into your system if you feel like it.

Currently using Phanteks - PH TC12DX, not sure if your suggestion is better or not but thank you.

I guess I should wait for a good deal for 1080/1080ti. Do you think I have enough time to observe if I want to upgrade by November?
