Upgrade or whole new build?

Starquest

Since the new cards are coming out, I figured I'd grab a 1080 for cheap. Only problem is the rest of my hardware is a bit outdated. Right now I'm running the following:

- AMD Phenom II Zosma quad core unlocked to 6 cores at 4.0 ghz

- ASUS Sabertooth 990FX

- EVGA 970 SSC

Will I need to upgrade my CPU or can it keep up with a 1080?

That Phenom is quite a bit behind the Tech-Curve you may wanna look into either a used Haswell or newer CPU+Mobo combo which should be fairly cheap (and uses much cheaper DDR3 Ram) or if you want new Hardware either Ryzen or Intels 8th Gen Cpus

Agree with everyone, definitely start new foundations dude, not worth building on that CPU.

Probably gaming or helping technophobes with tech...

Gpu is still good at fhd resolution with some compromise. The cpu is hopeless, no real upgrade path.

Thanks for the input. It's gonna break my heart to put my trusty old Phenom II to sleep
