Hey, so my family has noticed a slow in our internet speeds. We got our plan with TWC back maybe 10 years ago at this point. And with the introduction of a gaming PC, xbox, 2 laptops, and 4 smartphones it has been heavily bogged down. I want to know what a good internet plan would be, as in speeds to price. Right now we have maybe two HD streams running at a time with a game downloading in the background, that would be the highest load in an average day. I'm not sure the exact specs but google says 66.8 after a speed test. We have a budget shy of 100 dollars USD and would like to keep it under that. Any ideas for speeds?

Check on Spectrum's site to make sure, but in most places they now offer 400 down and 20 up or 200 down and 10 up for $44.99 for 24 months I think and after that the 400/20 goes to $64.99/month

That's so much of a rip-off that i actually feel sorry for you. But yeah, ~200mbit should be ok, it really depends on usage. You could also use a slower connection and add some qos for the streams and console.

Nope....Just nope.

Its also worth looking at which, if any of those devices are on WiFi.  If the package is that old, it could simply be the router that can't keep up rather than the broadband.

ASUS B650E-F GAMING WIFI + R7 7800X3D + 2x Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30-36-36-76  + ASUS RTX 4090 TUF Gaming OC

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) Backup: GL.iNet GL-X3000/ Spitz AX Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz) WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz)
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~1200Mbit down, 115Mbit up, variable)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7

Id have to agree with @Alex Atkin UK, your gateway from TWC may be just as old. If I had to guess its a 4x4 or 8x4 Docsis 3.0 device. Which means its probably has a shitty Wireless N AP in it, thats only single band. You can see if TWC would give you another gateway. OR buy a modem + router or a gateway yourself from a store. Not sure on TWC customer owned equipment policy. If push comes to shove, TWC might be nice to put your current gateway in bridge mode, making it essential a standard cable modem. Then you can just buy a router that works.

I used to by on a 75/10 connection with Comcast, we have since gotten a free upgrade to 150/10. But under my old play 3 HD streams were more than possible. So I dont see why you wouldnt be able to do what you doing with your current connection, depending on how many use the connection at a time. But id say 3 people on that connection shouldnt be much of an issue.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

We have a fairly new Apple airport extreme, what should we do about router? The parents will bite on a new router as long as it isn't up in 70+ probably. Checking our plan right now.

If the router is pretty new then I would check on the modem itself, what model is it?

There should be a model number on the modem you have.
