Do I only need to upgrade my GPU?

EIijah

I've been looking at upgrading my GPU, as I've noticed the prices going down recently. My only concern is will upgrading to a 1070 be a good upgrade or does the rest of the system need some love? My cpu has a stable clock of 4.4Ghz

So this is my current system:

  • CPU
    i5 4690K @ 4.4GHz
  • Motherboard
    Gigabyte Z97-X Gaming 3
  • RAM
    Corsair vengeance 4 x 4GB
  • GPU
    Gigabyte Windforce GTX 970
  • Case
    Corsair Carbide 200r
  • Storage
    250GB OCZ SSD, 2TB SSHD
  • PSU
    Corsair RM 750
  • Cooling
    CM Hyper 212 evo

CPU: i5-4690K @ 4.0GHz GPU: Gigabyte Gtx 970 WindForce MOBO: Gigabyte Z97 Gaming-3 CASE: Corsair Carbide 200R PSU: Corsair RM750

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 4GBx4  MOUSE: CM Mizar KEYBOARD: Logitec G110

The rest looks fine to me.

Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 Ghz  | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 |  PaliT GTX 1050Ti  |  8gb Kingston HyperX Fury @ 2933 Mhz  |  Corsair CX550m  |  1 TB WD Blue HDD

Inside some old case I found lying around.

You could also improve the CPU cooler as well, do you already have 2 fans on it? Stretching for a slightly higher OC would be worth it.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

970 to 1070 is a rather...meh upgrade, i guess it depends on how much you are getting the 1070 for.

Better if you can upgrade the CPU to 4770k/4790k. 4690k will get trash by 1070 on CPU intensive games.

I don't think an i7 would make any difference

I think it would be a good upgrade though maybe get a 1070 Ti instead! Your CPU will bottleneck the GPU in CPU intensive games but I don’t think you have to worry.

Have a great day :)

If you’re doing a lot of gaming 32 GB of RAM never hurt. Everything else looks good to me.
