Did your CPU hit 85c or your GPU. And what laptop do you have?

Depends on the laptop you're using.... but there are laptops that run hotter than that, I can assure you.

Laptops run a fair amount hotter than desktops, 

 

I'm running a GS63VR and the cpu regularly hits ~80-84c while gaming

The amount and kind of games you can play on safe temp with that laptop build/quality is really low. Any CPU/GPU intensive game you play will just turn your laptop into a mini heater. And no, those are not safe temps, for a laptop, you should be only playing at at least 60 C / 140 F. 

 

- Like that the boys are saying, try undervolting if bios permits it.

- Close all unnecessary apps.

- Power Options, Balance preset

- Low setting gaming.

- Or play easy to run games such as WoW, LoL, emulations, et cetera.
