Hi so im getting a power supply fgor a system that requires 380watts according to pc part picker, the one i picked out for it is 600watts on the 12 v rail at 30celciius I am realizing that this means it may not be the best power supply, since im not using near the max wattage supported by the power supply will this be in my favor in keeping it from malfunctioning, its an Evga Bronze rated, So essentially will it not matter as much compared to if i got a 450 watt powersupply for my system whos temp rating was 30 degrees, just asking cause i found one for around the same price as the 600 watt one except its a 500 watt rated at 40 celious

You're looking at the 600B right?

How much for a Seasonic SSP-450RT? Or a Super Flower PK450 maybe

@aezakmiNaw I so I bought the 660BR which they say is a new and improved 600B expect the 600 B is rated for thast wattge at 40 degress while the "improved" and more expensive Br is rated for that wattage at 30 degrees so im hella confused. and I was just hypothetically wondering if it makes it more acceptable since i have a lot of room between the max wattage and what i need. so esentiakky would you think it is safe to use like its not an unknown name power supply but itse definitely no whisper

Your talking about reliability and thats more about the parts inside. If the parts inside are good then its PSU is good. Having more wattage doesnt really matter as the computer will draw what it needs. BUT if you want to run efficiently then you need to look at the 80 Plus Standard and figure out loads Because at 50% load I think according to the standard it should be the most efficient. Personally I think buying a bigger PSU is ok, especially if you think you may upgrade the system in the future.

@aezakmi has some good advice as well Seasonic is supposed to be the bee's knees of power supplies.

This is a rating list of PSU's on the forum. It should point you in the right direction.

Here is info on the 80 Plus standard if your interested.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I'd say yes. But if you can still return, get a lower wattage better quality unit.

@Donut417 thanks a ton for that list I was looking for sometyhing like that but couldnt find it. I have a question though based on that list the 600B is a tier 5, they dont list the BR600 which was the one i bought. A problem with this is i dont know where it would fit because its more expensive then the B and has sleeved cables, unlike the B, but its operating temp for the 600 is 30 instead of the B's 40 degrees do you know how i should interpt it,

BR600 is probably also 5, at most a 4. If you needed any more than 450W you have the money for a good unit.

BASED OFF THAT I HAVE DECIED TO GET AN EVGA BQ 600 rated up to 40degrees and is in the middle tier of power supplies on the list posted on this thread

Why would you do that. The CX/M is usually available for significantly less, and 600W is way overkill.

:)

@seon123Its not in this case I got it for $29.99 from a local retailer, it was cheaper than the lower wattage versions of it, But yeah i would have gotten something like the cx/m

BQ 600 is Tier 4, not really recommended for gaming PC.

Yes lol.

You probably don't need 650W though, but it is a good PSU.
