Need help picking RAM for a 2950x Workstation build

Based on my original question over at the workshop: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/950136-future-proof-high-end-workstation-first-pc-build/?do=findComment&comment=11695132

----

I'll soon be switching to a new workstation which will be based on the 2950x.

Due to my work I am requiring 64gb of RAM (32 wouldn't be enough), but it looks like there's some stuff I need to be wary about…

The planned build: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/xBnFmq (Some things still subject to change)

The 64gb Ripjaws kit (4x16gb) I have in the list seems to be "not officially certified for ryzen" I found the following post on r/Amd that tells crashing problems with the same kit, but the 32gb model: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/6tz8sa/threadripper_and_ram_speeds/

On the other hand, quad channel seems to perform much better, but from what I've searched, i couldn't find any build with a single quad-channel 64gb kit running a steady 3200 (just always 2x4x8, so 8 sticks in total) - all i could find was 32gb.

Any help would be appreciated; what's the optimal kit, performance- and compatability-wise? Should I go above 3200hz as proposed in the linked thread?

Cheers!

AMD RYZEN and Threadripper CPUs love their RAM speeds so yes it is worth it, here is a kit that I would recommend if you want RGB, and this kit if you don't.

My kits run @ 3200 in quad channel w/ 4 DIMMs (64GB) populated.

Hoping w/ the upgraded memory controller in the 2950X, it will run @ 3200 w/ all 8 sticks.

Thanks for the links! That's quite a bit more money than the GSkill ones, but if it fits…

Those heat spreaders are quite a bit tall though; would they even fit with the NH-U14S TR4 SP3?

And yes, I prefer as little fancy lighting as possible :)

I guess you mean a model similar to this one (no RGB for me)? https://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/64GB-Corsair-Vengeance-LPX-schwarz-DDR4-3200-DIMM-CL16-Quad-Kit_1035518.html

Interestingly enough, PCPartPicker does not list it at all, but only the amazon version… https://de.pcpartpicker.com/product/9VL48d/corsair-vengeance-lpx-64gb-4-x-16gb-ddr4-3200-memory-cmk64gx4m4c3200c16

I don't have the RGB enabled most of the time. I can really only speak to what I have in my system that I've been using for a year. Wouldn't recommend something I haven't used.
