  • Total budget and country of purchase:

Soft-cap 1000$, Hard-cap 2000$

  • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.

Not a fan on 2 in 1, Good built quality is a must as this laptop will need to last me at least 3 years. Good keyboard and battery life is a plus.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not that important, coz I will be driving around

  • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.

Windows/Linux

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

Bigger than 13' is a plus

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Virtual machine, coding maybe a bit of machine learning

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Gaming sometimes. Dota2, Stardew Valley, Factorio and console emulation.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Good built quality and upgradability is a must.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I had T480 in my mind but I heard Lenovo is having bad quality control recently.

I dig sleek looking laptop that doesn't scream gaming

Welcome to the LTT forums! I will assume that you want at least 30 fps in those games, but it may take me a while as I and most people on this forum specialize in gaming laptops, which are notorious for their wimpy battery life. Also the most upgradeable parts will be the RAM and the storage solution.

Hopefully my fellow countryman Mr Fong can help out since he had experience with Lenovo

Mr Fong if you notice this, here are some question

1) How is Lenovo customer service is Malaysia ?

2) Have you deal with returning ur laptop, how is the experience ?

3) How is the quality control of your laptop ?

4) Last but not least, I had noticed your precense at our local forum ?

If you didn't care about good battery life, this laptop for $1200 would do the trick it has an Intel core I7 8750h 6 core processor and  a GTX 1060 6GB allowing for it to be a gaming and multitasking beast, this PC is also upgradeable, though as I have not owned a laptop from this brand I can not say much about the build quality, though if treated well it should easily last the 3 year life expectancy.

TBH, dealing with customer support mainly depends on luck. I have no issues whatsoever sending back my Y520 for fixing. The experience is nice, service is fast

May I know what's your budget in MYR? Also, what are your preferred max weight and minimum battery life?

Most probably RM8k will be the cap for my budget, I dont really have a preference for max weight since I'll be driving around, as for battery life, anything above 5 hours would be nice.

I would suggest a powerful laptop for your usage

Since you want minimal look, you can consider AW15 or AW17 (no Gsync), MSI GP63 8RE, Lenovo Legion Y530 (300nits panel), Asus GL703GM/GE and Asus GL503GE, Also consider Illegear Onyx (with upgraded battery), Z7 and Laguna. Should last at least 5 hours with some tweaks

Just need to off keyboard light
