Gaming/Streaming CPU Needed

So I'm building a new pc soon and I was wondering which CPU I should get.

I'm deciding between an i5 8400 or a Ryzen 5 2600. This PC is gonna be for gaming, homework and possibly 720/480p streaming on Rocket League or Fortnite.

Rest of Build

Arctic Freezer 33 eSports ONE

ASUS Prime B360M/B450M

G.Skill Trident Z RGB (2x8)

Kingston A400 120GB SSD

WD Blue Caviar 1TB 7200RPM

ASUS GeForce GTX ROG Strix 1060 OC 6GB

Cooler Master Masterbox Q300P

Corsair CXM 450W.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I am also considering an upgrade and i would definitely prefer ryzen above intel. It's better for multi tasking and will havr more future upgradability. What mobo are you going to use?

Ryzen for sure. Be sure you buy the latest motherboard chipset to ensure upgradability up to 2020.

Unlike intel motherboard which supports only 2 generations.

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

For your usecase an Ryzen 2600 with a B450 PRO4 from ASrock or Tomahawk from MSI would be the best choice. The lack of threads on the 8400 makes it unsuited for streaming.

Not to mention the extencive upgrade path for the Ryzen CPUs

Edit: Stay away from the B350/450 prime boards from ASUS, they are quite awful

Yeah, if you aren't purely ?% doing gaming then Ryzen but if all you do is game then Intel. Barely anyone just uses a PC as a pure games console only so Ryzen wins.

I have considered those boards but I'm looking for an ASUS board because I am planning to use Aura Sync for my Graphics Card, RAM, and Case. I could go with an ASUS TUF B450M. Would those be any better than the prime?

Its okay board. But for the money the board is rather poor. You are better of picking up the tomahawk board.

Does the prime boards even come with aura sync? My b350 board doesnt last time i checked. And i can confirm the board is awful

Ssssh....... The line isnt as clearly cut as that. Every CPU has its strenghts and weaknesses. (Even though it can be a bit bs sometimes)

Go with the ryzen 5 2600, artitc freezer is a pretty good cooler it will give you more overclocking headroom

I would say go with a better motherboard like a  b450 tomahawk

The MSI B450 Tomahawk is the best B450 all rounder. The MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC is the best B450 full stop, better than many X470s. Both have their own respective RGB controls. MSI really did justice in the B450 boards.

The thing with this is that I'm looking for an ASUS because the Aura Sync is compatible with my other parts. I mainly wanted ASUS was because the Strix 1060 is just amazing and I wanted to sync the RGB. Don't get me wrong, the msi boards are amazing but I'm just looking for the RGB here.

For the B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC, on the MSI website, it says that it needs an 8+4 pin CPU power connection. If I were to choose this motherboard, how would I connect the 4 pin connector because the power supply only has a single 4+4? Is this extra 4 pin optional for extra overclocking or would I need a better power supply/adapter of some sort?

Just buy a single 8+4 pin if you don't have one. Unless your PSU isn't modular. I have the motherboard if you want pictures.

Getting a full modular would be out of my price range so I just want to know, if you disconnected the extra 4 pin, would the CPU still run? If it is necessary would I be able to get like a molex adapter or something?
