Transfer EVERYTHING between computers

Hello I have an issue with a laptop and a new one is being sent to me.

 

I want to transfer EVERYTHING between my old laptop and the new one that arrives.

 

By EVERYTHING I mean not just documents and other files but actual programs like a complete duplication of the drive. With the goal that when I start using my new machine I wont have to spend hours setting things up or downloading programs. Theoretically I want to not be able to tell the difference between the machines.

 

Is this possible if so how?

Not really, you'll run into issues even if you manage to get the computer to boot up.

 

Clean install windows and reinstall your programs, then move the files over.

If you can look at the old laptop while installing stuff on the new one then it's easy to make sure everything is identical.

Clone the current drive to the new one.  Will you have bother computers at the same time?  Even easier would be to just swap the drives, as long as the drive isn't the problem.

I will have both computers and they are identical systems. Will this actually copy programs?

OOOOOOOH.....

Uh, well you can clone it still, but it's sounding like an external hard drive and moving teh files from one computer to another is the best way.  What's wrong with it?

clonezilla is freeware

 

after you have your clone. Then transfer it to your new laptop over network 

repeat the same on new laptop ( restore )

 

if done right you now have a exact copy

and windows will flash a little after restore because of drivers

but that’s a other problem and not for now
