Threaded settings in the .ini

I first stumbled on the setting using a Fallout new vegas application that edist the ini file for you. The description is said to help performance but idk how exactly, but i would like to use it for Skyrim if there is a possible improvement. So my overall question is, how does threading things like meshes, textures, etc affect performance? doesn't everything work of multiple CPU threads by default?

my specs (stuff possibly relevant to the topic):

i5 3570k

2 GB GTX 770 DirectCU II OC

8 GB 1866MHz RAM

It prevents the multi-core crashing bug in Fallout, I know it happens by default in Fallout 3 but in New Vegas it should already be enabled if it's not crashing on you.
