Need help transferring old program and its registry to another computer

hey all. im working on a friends old laptop and there is a program that he needs for his business backed up and able to put onto another computer and stay registered.  The program is old (from 2004) it runs on windows 10 (runs on my computer) but i cant seem to find any files in app data on his windows xp install that would be tied to it being activated. i think it it checks something in the register.  is there a easy tool that can find all the files associated to this program and have it back them up so i can just drop them into place on his new laptop. 

we don't have the option to re-download or re-activate the program being that its over 14 years old.  Thanks

Make an image of the laptop hard drive and run the whole thing inside a virtual machine?

not really an option. its for someone that is not tech savvy. i already have the program backed up. just need to figure out how i can find and back up the registry files associated with said program

Get Process Monitor (old version that supports XP) and see what registry entries the .exe goes through when you start it?
