Unable to partition external Harddrive

So I have a "Slim Backup Plus" Seagate 2TB external hard drive. I am trying to use it as a backup and as large file storage for my MacBook Air, which has limited storage. On the box, it says that it is Mac OS 10.10 or higher compatible and it works fine.

However, when I went into disk utility and tried to partition it the option to do so was unavailable. I then wiped the drive but that did not help. I went to Seagate's website but they were not very helpful or informative. Please help.
