It depends on entirely how it fails.

Some failures are instant "kabooms"/stopping functioning without slightest symptoms before that.

Then other failures are slower/happen over time with possible over time increasing symptoms from possibly worsening voltage regulation and increase of ripple.

Though ripple increase is likely more insidious with PC's components getting stressed some before "visible" symptoms.

Not unreasonable for it to have died. Capacitors don't age that well, especially really low end ones. 

Since it's such a low end PSU, you should really consider replacing it with a more modern and better unit. Something like the CX450, Pure Power 10 400W or Vengeance.

No, not necessarily, depends on the failure mode.

Some do, some don't.

 

In some cases damage is improbable, in other cases (failing Caps) highly likely.

That was a bad idea anyway.

1. because you bought a low end PSU that's rather old and use it with modern components

2. Due to the Changes in recent years (beginning ~2012-2013), the way modern components consume power changed dramatically from relatively constant to very fluctuating.

 

So with modern Components, the voltage can change multiple times in one second - and your old PSU is not made for this shit.

And if it isn't made for that, the modern components will kill it almost instantaneously.

 

So yeah, it is dead and dead for good. Was never ment to be used with modern Components like a 1060.

I don't even need to read the rest of the thread to tell you that, whatever problems you're having: this craptastic unit is the source of them.

 

You say it died? I'm not shocked. It was a cheap-as-chips unit when it was new and it very much has not aged well. Do you need a new PSU? Check out the PSU tier list in my signature and go for something at least tier 3.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
