Optane hate speech

Jungleweed

Can I just say, Intel are the biggest fuckwits ever to exist?

Step 1: Happily use Intel RST with 60GB ssd since 2011 to accelerate my Steam/video editing hard drive

Step 2: Always use in the 'Enhanced' (write through) mode because 'Maximized' is too risky

Step 3: Finally upgrade to Covfefe lake and get an 8700k + Asrock Extreme4

Step 4: Continue to use RST until one day you realize an RST update has disabled it

Step 5: Have no alternative than to either roll back RST driver or switch to Optane, take the 58GB Optane 800P plunge

Step 6: Get drive corruption that won't go away because the Asrock Extreme4 overloads voltage on VCCIO and VCCSA by default when XMP is enabled

Step 7: Attempt to disable Optane to check drive but restart because windows hangs during the process

Step 8: Find RST stuck in a loop trying to turn Optane back on, so disengage Optane in BIOS

Step 9: Find that nothing on your dive created after the date Optane was enabled is present or even recoverable

Step 10: Re-enable Optane in the hope files will become readable, but turn Optane off in the BIOS when you realize nothing is changed

Step 11: Enjoy your clean drives which now inexplicably show up as RAW even though 'preserve user data' was checked in the BIOS

Step 12: Enjoy Intel employees taking a nice fat dump on you while you are distraughtly trying to recover your data by saying Optane caching is unsupported on the 'SSD' versions even though it is now the only way to officially get an accelerated drive in Intel RST.

Fuck you Intel.

I use a 32g Optane drive, some of the best money I ever spent. makes my 4TB HDD the fastest storage on my PC. Blows the doors off my SATA SSDs.

So get the fustration, but Optane works pretty damn good.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Intel or Asrock?  Sounds like they had a hand in this shit show...

Asrock are perhaps even greater idiots than Intel in this scenario because while Intel did force me to spend money on their optane garbage which didn't even come with the option to act as a write through cache only, at least it provides some kind of performance benefit. Asrock on the other hand have an entire thread on their forum complaining that anyone enabling XMP is getting drive corruption since the first bios update but have done nothing about it for months and I suspect the problem goes deeper than firmware because I still get some level of corruption no matter what settings I try: http://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=6860&title=z370-extreme4-xmp-bug

My laptop had that RST thing and it was the worst shitware ever, corrupted my OS twice for no reason knowing I have to mount a fucking circus that involves removing the hard drive and plugging it into another computer to install the OS then remove it and put it back into the laptop and assemble 100 different pieces because the rotten dickheads at samsung designed it so you can't access the drive just by simply removing the keyboard just like in every normal laptop

ASUS X470-PRO • R7 1700 4GHz • Corsair H110i GT P/P • 2x MSI RX 480 8G • Corsair DP 2x8 @3466 • EVGA 750 G2 • Corsair 730T • Crucial MX500 250GB • WD 4TB

Just now, Finwillwin said:

What can I say Intel is crap.  AMD is crushing it.

I agree,this is what Intel's representative said:

The 58GB Optane SSD is not tested or validated by to be used as an accelerating Optane. The use of this device as an accelerating device voids the product warranty and may result in unexpected behaviors.

If are looking for a way to accelerate your caching to provide a better performance to your SSD, would be recommended for you to use Intel® Cache Acceleration Software (Intel® CAS). In the following link you will find detailed information about this tool and how to obatain it.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/software/intel-cache-acceleration-software-performance.html

And this is my reply:

1) Intel DISCONTINUED SUPPORT for SMART RESPONSE with SSDs on MOTHERBOARDS THAT SUPPORT IT

2) Intel DISAVOWS SUPPORT for the alternative: OPTANE SSD and never enabled a safer write through mode for it

3) Intel instead now RECOMMENDS a $300 piece of software

4) AMD releases STORE MI for FREE which does the job Intel SMART RESPONSE used to do??????

You people have taken away something that WORKS, replaced it with something that DOESN'T work, and now have NO DIRECT RESPONSE to the competing STORE MI product?

The customer loses with Intel is the only message I see here.
