Good CPU's

Well hello there. I just bought a gtx 1060 and im planning on buying everything else (pc components), so I would like to know what processor should I buy thats under 300$ and it has longevity. I'm planning on playing games like battlefield 1, Doom and so on. Any suggestions?

What is your entire budget? What components have you already bought?

Technically r7 2700x is under 300$.

Ryzen 5 2600X, Ryzen 7 2700 or the i5 8600K would be the best options for less than $300.

 

it's up to you to decide whether you want the increased platform longevity and better value from Ryzen vs better overall single threaded performance from Intel.

Then r7 2700x, msi x470 motherboard, 16gb of 3200mhz ram. That should fit your budget, and should last a long time.

If that is too expensive then option 2 is r5 2600, msi b450 motherboard, 16gb of 3000mhz ram.

cheapest Ryzen 6 core (even the 1600) will do, spend more on your memory and motherboard instead.

It all comes now to this... ryzen 5 2600, or i5 8600k... not willing to spend the whole budget but I will if I have to

R7 is 450$, so I made this choice... i5 8600k vs ryzen 5 2600... planning on playing BF1 on ultra...

The ryzen is about 230$ im going about the same price,max, on a motherboard.

Help me out with this last thing. If I buy the ryzen 5 ill spend the same amount of money for a motherboard. Will it last me longer than a i5 8600k? Or at least reasonable close for the 50$ dollars less.

Ryzen 7nm are also compatible with current am4 motherboards, but for intel 10nm you need a new mobo, so ryzen lasts longer.

Ryzen 5 then, if that means a better motherboard. Since power draw of Ryzen 6 core CPUs are rising, it's better to have a good one from the start

that is what im saying. ryzen am4 has supported first gen(14mm), second gen(14mm+/12mm) and it will also support third gen(7nm),

while with intel you always will need a new motherboard.

wait what? I'm not suggest getting 9th gen for 10nm, but for its 8 core and high single core performance without buying X299

I know that 9th gen is just 8th gen refresh and it wont need a new mobo, but that is just 2 cpu generations (well technically 1), and after that you will need a new motherboard.

 

Your original quote was that intel lasts longer because you can put a new cpu in the same socket, but amd lasts longer, because in total am4 will support 4 cpu generations, but intel at most has supported 2.

my 'logetivity' term is based on performance, not generation of CPU. Honestly, AMD showed us how new gen CPU can get worse than the old ones (FX versus Phenom 2), so I'm against going for a platform 'because it supports more new stuff'.

The difference is just the clockspeed.
If you overclock the chip  it doesn't matter which one you pick. You can get both to the same clockspeeds.
