Should buy a Ryzen 8 core for streaming, although with your budget you could even go for X399

at most buy a GTX 1070ti, nvidia is likely to announce new GPUs on the 20th

Tbh I really am not bothered about having the latest and greatest the moment it comes out. And not a fan of AMD, I have been strictly Intel my entire life

That doesn't make too much sense my man, 8 cores is going to be better for streaming, since you can basically give the game 4 cores/8 threads and give OBS 4 cores/8 threads

However with X399 on sale you can get a 12 core CPU for $500 is really hard to beat for a streaming PC.

threadripper 2 and newer possibly better TR4 coolers are about to come out with it

Sorry I should have specified I don't do heavy amounts of streaming or daily at all. I am just starting to fool around with it as a hobby.

The 12 core is still a really solid deal while it's on sale, and Ryzen is still going to be fine for gaming, if you have the money it gives you a lot more options.

Or the Ryzen 8 core R7 1700 is $80 cheaper than the i7 8700 6 core, same deal of being better for streaming due to having more cores

Ryzen also has a soldered IHS, and 4xx chipsets get you StoreMI which is neat tech for accelerating a hard drive

It is a fine build I suggest considering amd  like the others suggested but you seem very set on this build and intel so build it. Also you don't need a 1000w psu get a 750w and spend the extra for the 32gb of ram.

Other than that my family has always stuck with Intel. My brother went AMD on his last computer and has had nothing but headaches and problems that's why I am skeptical about jumping. In all my years with Intel I have never had a single issue at all with my pcs. (Fingers crossed I didn't jinx myself)

I switched to AMD last year as I got a good deal on a 1700. Either brand is good nowadays I had no problems as long as you use a fresh install of windows, and using the correct bios

What processor and what was the actual PC custom or pre-built?

It's an objective better product this time around for a lot of workloads, especially the cheap 12 core.

Why buy an $80 more expensive i7 8700 when it's not as good for streaming, and is only going to be 15-20fps faster in CPU bound situations in the average AAA game?

Just for perspective the 1920X has like 90% the performance of the Intel 12 core 7920X at almost half the price, uses less power, and has a soldered IHS for 15-20C better temps out of box

I would really wait until the next gen 1180/2080 which may come out int he next 2 weeks for a better value. For the Ram I would get 16gb and figure out later if you need more. Definitely get smaller PSU. The 8700K is completely fine for gaming and streaming don't listen to the others about it. Even though I would get a 2700X if I were you because of the better value and core count but it is perfectly fine. Also where is the cooler?

Still figuring out what cooler to go with, reading through reviews and what others are using. And I know I may wait for now and see if prices drop or good sales come out. Might just purchase the SSD's, psu, case for now and have it ready and if good sales come out then reassess motherboard, gpu, cpu and ram

970 EVO or any other NVMe drive isn't really worth it for only gaming and streaming. These drives are more useful for content creation purposes such as a scratch disk for Adobe programs when working with big files.

I'd do a PCpartpicker list for you but I'm not home atm.

Yea I agree 1000W looking at it now is overkill. Will look into a 750W psu and consider 32GB of ram instead

32GB RAM isn't needed if you are just gaming and streaming.

Your brother likely used an AMD FX-based platform. Ryzen is a far superior platform compared to that garbage.

The thread ripper and X- series processors is clearly overkilled for what he is going to do. Both flagship consumer chips is good for anything except crazy high-end video editing. I think you will have a better experience by spending that money on ssds for your games.

His budget is $3000 CAD, not 1000 CAD, can easily go HEDT

32gb is overkill I agree but if he is gonna spend the money, and stick with Intel might as well go towards more ram than the extra wattage that isn't needed.
