Samsung S8 Wi-Fi Connection Issue - Exclamation mark

jiyeon

Hi, so I've been having a weird issue with my phone recently regarding its Wi-Fi connectivity.

I will very often get this exclamation mark beside my Wi-Fi icon, indicating I do not have internet connectivity.

This usually happens in a few situations:

1) I have turned on my phone from sleep and go straight into using internet e.g Twitter, YouTube, Discord

2) When I turn off my PC and hop onto my phone

3) When it's past 10PM

4) When I'm watching YouTube videos at 720p+

I tested my Wi-Fi connection by using Speedtest, and it's the usual connection.

I don't understand why this happens, so any help as to how it happens and what I can do to eliminate the mark will be super helpful in my endeavour to get stable mobile Wi-Fi again. :)

Things I have already done:

• Reset the router
• Removed & re-added the Wi-Fi again

• Enabled 'Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep'

What has changed since this last worked?

Android OS Update?

the the router move

did furinature move

did you add more devices to your wifi?

What frequency band are you using 2.4G or 5G?

Do you have separate SSID's for 2.4G and 5G?

When you get the ! mark does network connectivity still work?

When you took that screenshot the wifi signal is quite low.

1. I got fiber-optic installed but I'm sure this happened before this change.

2. I've been on Android 8.0.0 since like May...

3. Router is still in the same position as always, even the previous one was the same place.

4. No new furniture.

5. The only new devices since this year were my Chromecast, my Moto 360, my Nintendo 3DS, and my family's Chinese box set.

6. According to my router settings, there is both 2.4G and 5G.

7. I think they're on the same SSID.

Yes, network connectivity is uninterrupted. The Wi-Fi signal being low is just a fluctuation that happened when I took the screenshot. It jumps between 2-4 a lot.

If you don't have a separate sid like Seoz2.4 and Seoz5 than they are the same SSID, which isn't a bad thing, can make troubleshooting more difficult, but allows for client devices to more easily switch between bands depending on signal strength.

It doesn't seem to me that you have alot of WiFi devices so it is unlikely you are overloading the router.

Do you still get the same ! mark if you move physically very close to the router, does it go away?

It happens more often in my bedroom upstairs, I think. The router is downstairs in the lounge. Whenever I'm downstairs in the dining room, my S8 is completely fine, and to be honest, I don't think I've ever seen the mark while downstairs.

My only guess would be issues with signal strength or interference if it has never been an issue downstairs.

You could try a range extender halfway between you and the router, sadly I cannot think of any solutions that won't cost money and I am unsure if it will fix the problem for you.
