Is the i5-8400 worth it?

I currently have the i5 6400 and I'm thinking of upgrading. Is the 8400 a good choice?

Ryzen would probably be better for your wallet

I would need to buy a Motherboard, wouldn't it be more expensive than buying just the Intel CPU?

You will need to buy a motherboard anyway.

A ryzen 1600 with a B350 Pro4 board from ASrock is a really cheap and good combo atm

Intel says the 1151 socket supports both 6400 and 8400

Its a different 1151. Intel swapped pin layout to 1151 v2 with their coffeelake CPU.

Its stupid i know, but thats the reality of things.

Ryzen AM4 socket will be able to use untill 2020.
