Corsair gs600 psu hot and smells like warm plastic

Go to solution Solved by TheGamingLanceYT,

Warranty it or replace it....

Whats ur specs of ur pc? might be drawing to much power.....

So this is just right now happening, i was just sitting at my desk editing a video and when i got done with it i noticed that my fan was still running really loud, so i go into evga xoc and turn down the fan speed, but it was still loud and thats when i realized it was my case fans and suddenly i smelt warm plastic like a hot glue gun. I immediately unpluged my rig and iv got it on the table my Psu is still warm but cooling and i can still smell warm plastic or something like it when i sniff anywhere near it. I really dont know what to do here or if im just over reacting. I could really use some help.

My build is:

★ i7-7700k

★ Evga 1070 SC

★ corsair 600w psu

★ corsair H75 AIO

★ win 10 64bit latest update

Open your psu and be careful, you can get a shock and die. If anything looks wrong, put the cover back on and RMA it or use the warranty and get a new one.

Don't open your PSU unless you're a professional that knows what you are doing.

Super agree with this.  Also, many times they have warranty stickers on there to indicate if it has been opened or not, and that will invalidate your warranty and your chances of an RMA replacement.

Update: i pluged it back in and lowered the oc to base clock, and 3 min later the psu fan kicked on at 100% and the whole area smelt toxic. Rip psu :(

Yep. You NEED to get a new PSU. If this PSU has a history (now it does!) of doing this, I wouldn't trust getting another one of the same model. I would go with the safe bet and get a new one and a different model. But if you want to warranty it then whatevs, it's your PC! :)

I 100% agree with his comment DO NOT OPEN IT. Go buy another psu or replace it via warranty avoid the risk of damaging your components I recommend the EVGA supernova series.
