Asus ROG Z370-G gaming won't post

Hi everyone,

Currently building my first PC, and I've run into some problems.

MB: ASUS ROG Strix Z370-G gaming (wi-fi)

CPU: Intel i7-8700k (Noctua NH-D9L Cooler)

RAM: Team T-Force Dark 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3000

GC: Msi Armor Gtx 1070Ti

SSD: Samsung 960 EVO M.2 SSD

PSU: EVGA Supernova 650 G2

All new.

So I built outside the case to try and make sure everything worked. I mounted everything and got all my cables plugged in, and then hooked up to a monitor and turned on the PSU. The RGB lights on the MB lit up, but when I went to short the power button pins no fans spun up and no post. Tried again and figured out that when I short the pins a click comes from the PSU, but still no post or spin up.

Troubleshooting I've tried:

1) CPU cooler fan is in the correct header, and yes I have the extra 8 pin CPU cable in using the correct PSU cable

2) Re-seated PSU cables

3) Took each part out one by one (except for CPU and RAM) and tried after each part

4) Tried only 1 stick RAM (in the recommended slot)

5) Re-seated the CPU and the CPU cooler (Checked for bent pins, didn't see any)

6) CMOS reset

7) Different fan in the CPU cooler header

Every single time its the same thing. PSU clicks, no spin up and no post. If I short the pins for 4 seconds afterwards (to "turn it off" according to MB manual) there's another PSU click, but still nothing happens. I'm worried its a fried MB or at best a bad PSU, but I have no extra components lying around to test.

Try reseating the ram as well as using a new PSU. (For testing)

Oof forgot to put reseating RAM in the things I’ve already tried section.

don’t have another PSU on hand but that’s something I’m going to try to get a hold of in the next couple of days.

thanks for the advice.

You have tried everything I can think of.  When you get hold of another psu,, may I also suggest you get a psu testing tool.   They run about 12 dollars in usa  They have inputs to test all your psu connections.  You plug your psu into wall socket, plug all your psu leads in appropriate connectors on the tool.  When you press the on button you get readouts on all your voltages and alarms if any are low.
